Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 May 23, 2014 10:25 pm Hoping I might get some advice here. We're currently doing our main bathroom renovation. Bath was installed earlier in the week, and has been bricked in by our tiler. Had a new window installed today above the bath and the glazier has unfortunately managed to scratch the bottom of our lovely new bath in several places (no drop sheet used!!) Just wondering if/how this might be fixed? I fear we are too far into the reno to replace the bath completely - tiling starts tomorrow. Would the resurfacing-type companies give a quality repair? It's a Decina acrylic bath. Any other suggestions for fixing a scratched up surface? Re: Brand new bath badly scratched - help?!? 2May 24, 2014 9:16 am Resurfacing will work fine but make sure you use someone willing to show you examples of their work. Have seen some that turned out to look very orange peely and with entrained bubbles Re: Brand new bath badly scratched - help?!? 3May 24, 2014 4:09 pm Thank you! I called the place we bought the bath from who have recommended someone. Will ask if he has photos of his work. Would hate for it to end up worse than what we started with! Re: Brand new bath badly scratched - help?!? 5May 24, 2014 5:34 pm Althom Hope you intend to present the tiler with the bill? Only way some of these clowns learn that they have to look after other people's property. Agree - why isn't it his job to fix ? Re: Brand new bath badly scratched - help?!? 7May 25, 2014 9:30 am JB1 Disagree- The tiler will understandably swear at you. (The damage was done by someone else ) Ahh yes - of course. It wasn't me sir ... Re: Brand new bath badly scratched - help?!? 10May 26, 2014 12:41 am Heh heh yes, my tiler is innocent in this saga! 'Twas the glazier who caused the damage. I really feel that the bathroom is too far along to rip out the bath and replace it, so the only option I am left with is repair. Said glazier is coming to inspect the damage this week and has said verbally "we'll see what we can do". They had better "do" some serious repairing or discounting on my shower screen (or both) or I will be one unhappy camper. Re: Brand new bath badly scratched - help?!? 12May 26, 2014 4:26 pm Yep, organising the trades myself JB1. Unfortunately (rookie error!) I checked the window which looked fine and paid the glazier in full. I didn't think to check the bath below it until later that afternoon which is when I saw the damage. They came out this morning to inspect the damage and I fear I am going to have a fight on my hands. It's going to be my word (that the bath was unscratched - which it was) against theirs. The guy suggested that it was my tiler who did the damage. My tiler was waterproofing that day and hadn't been near the bath. All demolition was done prior to bath installation. Glazier then said in one breath that they hadn't been in the bath, then in the other that the tiler had said it was ok to stand in the bath. Grrr. I am rather furious, but not good at confrontation, so trying to be firm whilst quaking in my boots Hubby home in a few days so he can take over where I leave off! If they don't take responsibility and agree to either repair it, or discount my shower screen I don't have much in the way of recourse do I? Re: Brand new bath badly scratched - help?!? 15May 26, 2014 11:02 pm ^^ hmm I feared this would be the case. The more I think about it now that the initial shock and fury has worn off, the more I think I should cut my losses and get someone else in to do the shower screen & mirror. Particularly given they're not taking responsibility for the damage. I don't really want these guys back in my house! Spoke to the Decina bath rep today who has given me details of a repair guy who can apparently get it back looking new again by buffing out the scratches for $100-150. Thanks all for being my sounding board! Will update when (if?) I hear from the manager of the glazier company. Re: Brand new bath badly scratched - help?!? 16May 26, 2014 11:24 pm Sorry for your trouble. The episode above is exactly why I go in mistrusting every thing. I have no problem paying the money for the service but with top price come accountability when that is not there then why should I pay. The tradie should have insurance if he is a professional, why cant he fess up and claim on his insurance. Grrrrr so angry for you... I am in a difficult situation. Long story short I have been handed over my brand new home in Sydney with everything in the house being great except the windows that were… 0 238 Thank you. That is really helpful. Once we get the place done and passed for OC we can upgrade in the future once we get back on our feet and not paying mortgage and rent. 4 5727 Bathroom renovation will likely include a back-to-corner bath and we’re considering a freestanding tap with hand-held shower such as the picture included.
