Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry Re: Polished Porcelain Tiles - Staining 21May 20, 2014 7:46 am The most recent test seems to indicate that its the concentration of QV that influences whether a stain will occur or not. The slightly diluted 'spill' only stained in the areas it puddled and was still puddled around 36 hours later. The other areas naturally evaporated leaving no trace. Tonight I will try a very diluted sample (try to match a real bath dilution, but that is hard as the only direction is 2 caps to a bath) that will cover most of the tile. -G Re: Polished Porcelain Tiles - Staining 22May 26, 2014 12:03 am Update on this. Have found that diluted, it only managed to mark when there was standing water for many hours. Of the spill test, only the puddle areas marked. I have also tested Domestos bleach on it, and it took several hours to mark it, and then hardly compared to the oils. What we have found though, is that 'pure' water, straight from the tap, will temporarily (for anywhere from 15 minutes to several hours) mark the tiles. It's like the tiles absorb the water, then it slowly evaporates. This has been seen in our en suite, far away from the QV Bath Oil in the kids bathroom. That's not what we would expect from polished porcelain tiles that have been treated. No? -G Re: Polished Porcelain Tiles - Staining 23May 26, 2014 2:41 am I definitely wouldn't expect polished porcelain tiles to stain Re: Polished Porcelain Tiles - Staining 24May 26, 2014 1:07 pm This is a perfect example of Beaumont tiles buying cheap imports again and telling the customer that they are the best you can buy. All Beaumont tile shops stock cheap polished porcelain imports. If your tile is staining then it is cheap and nasty import is the problem. I do not know why such are large company would treat there customers this way. Most professional tilers cringe when they have to install Beaumont`s polished porcelains. I feel for you but there is no fix for this. The tiles will stain no matter what you put on them. I would ask for a complete refund or take it to fair trading. We just need to stand up to these companies who think they can take our hard earned. Wish you all the best. Re: Polished Porcelain Tiles - Staining 25May 30, 2014 6:26 pm Thanks Grout Perfect. We are likely heading towards a full replacement, pending them proving there's a range of porcelain tiles that doesn't mark...failing which, the builder WILL pay for tiles from another manufacturer. Let's see how it goes. Re: Polished Porcelain Tiles - Staining 26May 30, 2014 7:31 pm I think it will be an uphill battle trying to get the builder or Beaumont to pay for the replacement tiles AND labour to re-tile. While they are poor quality, they aren't defective. They'll prob will just polish it and put a sealer. The builder has chosen cheap tiles and unfortunately you're not getting a Mercedes when he paid for a Hyundai. Re: Polished Porcelain Tiles - Staining 27May 30, 2014 7:46 pm The thing is, these have been an issue before we took handover 11 months ago and well documented. Beaumont technical staff have been out several times and the tiles were supposedly sealed by something with a 15 year guarantee... So no, I don't think it is anywhere near unreasonable for them to replace every single tile at their cost. -G Re: Polished Porcelain Tiles - Staining 28May 31, 2014 12:00 am If anyone's interested in a solution to this staining, my Mum found something that seems to work (can discolour tiles though, test on an area first). This was a few years ago so I forgot she'd had the same issue as the OP. I just remembered and asked her about it tonight at dinner! Mum got a product called Barkeepers Friend. It's usually for polishing stainless steel or something but she read about it on the internet for water stained tiles. It seems to draw out the moisture or something.... Anyway the technique is she made it into a paste, painted it on to the tile with a pastry brush and allowed it to dry (one day), then gently scraped it off with a spatula and wiped it dry. Pain in the bum she said but got heaps of ugly stain marks out of their polished porcelain tiles. Stain marks have reappeared of course when the tiles have gotten wet again but it definitely worked to remove stains. Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65085 Re: Polished Porcelain Tiles - Staining 30May 31, 2014 12:18 am I was always led to believe that porcelain is totally non-porous. But I found this article which explains the difference between porosity and "pores". Sounds confusing doesn't it! http://www.infotile.com/pdfFile/advicet ... 041350.pdf Re: Polished Porcelain Tiles - Staining 31Jun 03, 2014 1:35 pm Management from the builder out here checking the tiles... we poured water on the tiles (just the middle of 4 tiles) before they got here. Re: Polished Porcelain Tiles - Staining 33Jun 03, 2014 2:46 pm Wow, this was an interesting read. Who'd have thought QV oil would stain porcelain tiles?? How frustrating for you. We are about to build this year, and we use QV gentle wash & QV flare up for our toddler. Have you heard anything about the rest of the QV range? Is it only the oil that is causing a stain or should I be careful about our tiles too? Good luck with finding a solution Re: Polished Porcelain Tiles - Staining 34Jun 03, 2014 4:43 pm Charlston01 Wow, this was an interesting read. Who'd have thought QV oil would stain porcelain tiles?? Re: Polished Porcelain Tiles - Staining 35Jun 03, 2014 5:02 pm Ok. Builder came back to us and has asked/suggested we initiate a case with Consumer Affairs. I think Beaumont is digging in their heels and the builder wants it sorted. So I'll be opening a case, and getting everyone (Beaumont, Builder, VBA, CA) out here, and showing them how diluted QV, diluted sensitive washing liquid that dripped off the washing machine door, and water itself, all get absorbed by these tiles... The result I want is simply that every tile is removed. These tiles, that ONLY exist in our wet areas (wood/carpet elsewhere), are not suitable for wet areas and should never have been sold as such. They can then replace them with something that is actually durable... who knows if Beaumont actually has something like that... and honestly, they can rebuild the entire bathroom, en suite and laundry; walls and all. -G Re: Polished Porcelain Tiles - Staining 36Jun 03, 2014 5:12 pm Sorry to hear that you have to take it up with consumer affairs. This is a typical response from Beaumont tiles washing there hands on every complaint about there polished porcelains. Boy the stories I could tell. I guess the big companies are doing it tough then. Surely they have insurance for this type of problem and I am sure they could afford to excess. Keep up the fight and goodluck. Re: Polished Porcelain Tiles - Staining 37Jun 03, 2014 5:25 pm Word of mouth is a powerful tool as well... let us know how things progress. Re: Polished Porcelain Tiles - Staining 38Jun 03, 2014 5:42 pm Very true and reviews online go along way. Review on Google, Word and Mouth website and Product Review website is cool too. The more people that read it the more they will hurt and hopefully that will make them change the way they go about things. Re: Polished Porcelain Tiles - Staining 39Jun 04, 2014 5:40 am What a shame that you have to take the action rather than the builder who supplied you Good luck and keep us up to date, I'll be sure to avoid Beaumont tiles at all cost! Re: Polished Porcelain Tiles - Staining 40Jun 04, 2014 2:44 pm I also am sorry to hear of your issues. The catch may be that most suppliers will have a clause that they have no responsibility once the tiles are laid. Make sure that you push the point that this defect is something that can not be detected until the tile is in use - so how can one know prior to installation. I can only speak of the products i import. But in 16 years of importing from Spain i never have had such issues.
