Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 May 16, 2014 10:48 am Hi all, After months of trying to work out why SOME less than 1/4 of our bathroom tiles were coming up with what looked like water stains, we found a possible cause. QV Bath Oil. It appears that even in diluted form it will stain Beaumont polished porcelain tiles. This is what a person on the phone (I was handed the phone, so cannot confirm 100% that it was a Beaumont rep) told me when I said we bath our toddler in QC Bath Oil. He equated it with olive oil and red wine. Now, I can't accept that. If that was the case, every single tile that got wet each night when bathing our toddler, and let's face it if you're a parent that's bathed a little child you'll know the water tends to go everywhere; would be stained. But they're not and some have damp/wet toys rest on them all night/day. I'd like to hear from anyone on their experiences with QV Bath Oil and Beaumont polished porcelain tiles. Thanks, -G Re: Polished Porcelain Tiles - Staining 3May 16, 2014 6:19 pm Oh gosh I hope not cause that's what we have to use for my toddler's eczema. I find it hard to believe because it's a dispersed oil, very diluted, not like olive oil at all. I don't see why it would stain sealed tiles.... but I guess I could see how it could affect grout. Hmmmm...... Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65085 Re: Polished Porcelain Tiles - Staining 4May 16, 2014 6:20 pm In fact, does olive oil even stain sealed tiles? I wouldn't have thought so..... I've put neat QV Bath Oil and Cobham's Extra Virgin Olive Oil on a spare tile and will leave them overnight to see if anything happens to the tile. Have filmed the pouring and will film the cleaning... Will post the results here. -G Re: Polished Porcelain Tiles - Staining 6May 16, 2014 9:54 pm Oooh yes please, let me know. Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65085 Re: Polished Porcelain Tiles - Staining 7May 17, 2014 12:30 pm I agree with the suggestions to test it on a spare tile, but it doesn't sound right to me, it sounds like theyve found a convenient scapegoat. If the tiles can't stand up to bathroom products, and I can think of a lot of things you might be using in a bathroom which are probably harsher, then the tiles ought to come with the warning 'not suitable for bathrooms'. Re: Polished Porcelain Tiles - Staining 8May 17, 2014 3:28 pm I had polished porslin in my old house but in the living area . when cooking oil would spray on the tiles and there would be no stains on them . I would see water marks if water would sit there for a while but it would come off . did you clean the tiles withj something that could of stained them . porslin tiles can stain if chemicals go on them . I tend to steam mop them and clean with vinegar or meth spirit .I don't see qc oil doing it . Re: Polished Porcelain Tiles - Staining 9May 17, 2014 3:50 pm We use water and Enyo cloths to clean our tiles and wooden floors. After around 14 hours I wiped both oils off. The QV Baby Oil actually left more of a mark (darker) than the Olive Oil. I will repeat the test on one of the tiles I was told has been specially treated with some uber Beaumont protection. I have video and photos of the test. And will do the same with the next one. -G Re: Polished Porcelain Tiles - Staining 10May 17, 2014 4:05 pm I love enyo. don't have much of their range . good luck with it all .I wonder if those tile cleaner people can come out and have a look maybe they can get the stain out . maybe then you can get the tiles sealed to prevent it from happening . but make sure you see if those tiles are able to get sealed . Re: Polished Porcelain Tiles - Staining 11May 18, 2014 2:32 pm I've taken two halves of tiles the builder's tiler cut to replace marked tiles - supposedly treated. Just testing the QV now. If every one of these tiles that I test mark, then we'll go to a Beaumont store and buy some single tiles of different polished porcelain tiles and test those. If those fail too, we'll try other manufacturers polished porcelain tiles too and see what happens with them. -G Re: Polished Porcelain Tiles - Staining 12May 18, 2014 3:25 pm Sometimes this forum makes me feel old. Tiles that need extra sealing? Roof eaves are an optional extra? What next? Why are the things we used to consider standard turning into luxuries the next generation has to pay extra for? Tiles need extra sealing? I even told Hubs over dinner, I said have you ever heard of such a thing? Anyway, I'll be following this thread with interest and I hope you can get your bathroom sorted without too much more trouble. How disappointing. Btw where were the tiles manufactured? I remember a thread about a different problem with some imported porcelain tiles. Re: Polished Porcelain Tiles - Staining 13May 18, 2014 3:49 pm JazzyJess Btw where were the tiles manufactured? I remember a thread about a different problem with some imported porcelain tiles. No idea. They are Beaumont tiles. The line is discontinued. Happened because we did our colour selection about 3 years ago, and then waited 2 years for the land to title... And I'm with you on the old days... I moved around a lot in my early days (South Africa) and I've never seen tiles that mark like this and never heard a manufacturer claim they've tried everything and nothing marks the tiles... My prime suspect is that the range/batch was flawed. -G Re: Polished Porcelain Tiles - Staining 14May 18, 2014 6:44 pm Latest test of around 4-6 hours on that one off cut marked it. Now taking a fresh tile from a second batch and doing a partially (250ml of water and 1 cap) diluted QV 'spill' and some neat QV as well. Seems like we'll be off to gather other samples. -G Re: Polished Porcelain Tiles - Staining 15May 18, 2014 7:32 pm Any chance of pics to show the oil stains? I'm amazed the bath oil will stain it! Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65085 Re: Polished Porcelain Tiles - Staining 17May 19, 2014 6:42 pm Hmm the pics aren't loading for me for some reason. I'll keep trying! Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65085 Re: Polished Porcelain Tiles - Staining 19May 19, 2014 7:17 pm Hmmm... does it not come off with cleaning? Have you tried a steam mop, I've been impressed with what that can do with greasy ointment stains. Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65085 Re: Polished Porcelain Tiles - Staining 20May 19, 2014 8:44 pm EmyN does it not come off with cleaning? Have you tried a steam mop Beaumont claim they tried everything to get it off. We don't own a steam mop as we have laminate wooden floors and that's a no-no. -G Hi, I have an area of zincalume cladding encasing a number of external downpipes.
