Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Apr 21, 2014 10:44 pm So we have a large long crack that's appeared on the floor of our shower.
Clearly we have issues under the tiles.. given that I live in an old 50s house with floorboards, the original bathroom needs replacing. I suspect they will need to rip the floor out and replace what's there. I'm going to budget about 15k with 5K contingency and hope that because it's a small bathroom it doesn't cost too much. All up the area requiring tiling is about 25sqm. (walls/floor). So some key questions: Does anyone have recommendations for bathroom renovators at all in Perth? (Not looking for google fu searches, done that, looking for personal recommendations). For those of you who have renovated bathrooms, how long did it take? Did you move out during that time? Re: Bathroom woes 3Apr 22, 2014 4:09 pm One option during the renovation is to hire an ensuite. I haven't needed to do it myself but have talked with a couple of people who told me it worked well. There is no need to move out, but you will need to make arrangements on where to have showers. Husband and I work full time. The damage on the floor is significant and I don't have time to be a owner/renovator. I already have half a house at the moment with no skirting boards that hubby promised me would be done / completed several months ago Re: Bathroom woes 5Apr 23, 2014 7:20 am freakychick bashworth JB1 Have you thought about arranging the tradies yourself? In an ideal world, I agree. My situation isn't an ideal world. A lot of people seem to think you have to spend all day with the trades supervising them. This is not the case. You contract them and then choose your materials and let them do the work. The money to be saved is huge!!! Not always that nice but does the job. I don't like those "plastic" showers, but they may be cheaper. Re: Bathroom woes 10Apr 28, 2014 9:57 pm Well, we've booked in 2 companies to come in and quote. I have a 3rd to get in contact with and then after that, it's talking to my mortgage broker for finance. It's a small room - 2.7*1.8 Can't wait to see if people are up to the challenge Re: Bathroom Renos (paperwork done) 11Jun 28, 2014 11:39 pm We have signed paperwork today to get our bathroom done.
Deposit has been paid and we're still in the middle of getting finance arranged... but it's pretty much all go. We went with a company that a friend has used and very happy with. It was a tough choice, but the company is also local to my area so dropping in to see them isn't a hassle. They've done a mockup look and there are some changes that are being made but I'm really excited. Plans attached.. Re: Bathroom Renos (paperwork done) 14Jun 29, 2014 7:37 pm Looks good- if you need a bath. I've never been a fan of shower over bath, especially as the bath spout is right at your knees when you step in. I actually think shower over baths are dangerous having had one in the past. Every house my parents owned has had a shower bath. I've grown up with them, so best of both worlds. We aren't doing the bathroom for re-selling - this is what hubby and I want! When we do the back half of the house, we're having a wet room added which should take care of anyone who wants to avoid the dreaded "shower bath". Re: Bathroom Renos (paperwork done) 16Jun 30, 2014 12:03 pm In small bathrooms they serve a purpose and in a lot of cases where there is only one bathroom plus you need both a shower and a bath, a shower/bath combo is your only choice. I've lived in lots of houses that have had them too and it is very common. Stewie Re: Bathroom Renos (paperwork done) 17Jul 01, 2014 12:59 am Just make sure your bath tap can swivel back against the wall so to dont knock your legs. Maybe ask for the shower panel to have a large round corner at top to help soften it or cut it at 45 degrees looks much better. Re: Bathroom Renos (paperwork done) 18Jul 01, 2014 1:02 am We have a shower bath and the bath spout is index the shower head, but the mixer in the middle of the bath to make it easy to turn on. Might work for you too? Our screen is curved as above and also on hinges which makes it easy to reach the plug hole Good luck! We are considering either a swivel tap or moving it altogether, good points are bought up here. We were looking at Phoenix Nostalgia, but the sink mixer set doesn't suit an undermount sink. They suggested Bastow Georgian.. but I'm not a fan. I'm looking at something else like Sussex Scala tapware instead. Re: Bathroom Renos (paperwork done) 20Jul 11, 2014 1:54 am Checking the prices of some of the other bits and pieces made me realise that sometimes, their "standard items" weren't that "standard". So with the savings I made with swapping out the taps, the toilet bowl, heated towel rail.. I was able to have a bigger window with more light. Thanks to people in this thread for making me double check I work with owner, he/she is my man on the ground and I instruct them when to visit the site and take photos and I have other tools in the bag. 4 9636 I am in the same situation, would you be able to give some insights in to this?
