That will just lead to more work and possibly having to trash the whole bathroom once you start. I'd get some sort of sealer and coat the entire shower area for a temporary fix ( read 6 month to a year ) then do the whole bathroom in one go. Doing a lot of the work like demolition and rubbish removal yourself will save you a lot of cash.
