Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Feb 02, 2014 7:18 pm Hello All, I am wondering if anyone out there has ever bought those free standing loo roll holders or towel rails freestanding? We don't get them from our builder and we couldn't put them in from the selection centre, so I am not that great on drilling holes into my band new walls. Also, if anyone has had any good/bad experiences with those suction wall mounted types as well. Re: Freestanding Vs Wall Mounted Loo Roll and Towel Holders 2Feb 02, 2014 9:52 pm I think they only look good in period homes, where they fit. Otherwise it looks like someone forgot to put in toilet roll holders or towel rails. Why don't you look at youtube videos on how to install these things, I think you'd be surprised how easy it can be. Surprises me some of the things they don't include, but I guess that's why they have display homes stacked full of extras to make you think that they are giving you a great deal. You'd be surprised at the number of builders that don't include these. Some builders will put them in but at a hell of a price too. Being a female this isn't an easy thing for me to install without screwing it up completely.. Pardon the pun. It's very depressing to hear a fellow "female" say that. What on earth has being female have to do with your ability to screw something into a wall. How sexist. Gah, that really got my goat. Re: Freestanding Vs Wall Mounted Loo Roll and Towel Holders 10Feb 03, 2014 7:28 am seem to be getting off topic here.. didn't post this question to be ridiculed for not being able to do this myself.. its not just the fact I am female ok???? I have a physical condition stopping me from doing this? OK? happy? Jeeee Can anyone else provide advise if they have used those suction types? maybe that would be better than the freestanding ones. Re: Freestanding Vs Wall Mounted Loo Roll and Towel Holders 11Feb 03, 2014 7:29 am bpratt not you, the builders who think that of themselves. oh cool!! haha that's cool then, I thought after the other comment from someone else on this topic you were trying to be smarty to me as well cuz I cant do a simple thing.. I even had to pay for door stops.. you would think they were included to stop you from damaging your walls with the handles.. Haha, don't worry in my time on the tools I have seen some guys attempt this and make a right royal stuff up doing this as well - and they were tradesmen ! Chipped or cracked tiles that the baseplate wouldn't cover, hitting a water pipe or electrical cable by drilling too deep in the wall, chipping the vanity benchtop or toilet bowl while they were drilling, not using a vacuum hose while drilling into red brick and having all that superfine red dust land on the white floor grout - staining it forever etc etc. Stewie Re: Freestanding Vs Wall Mounted Loo Roll and Towel Holders 13Feb 06, 2014 6:25 pm EmyN melfordgurl Being a female this isn't an easy thing for me to install without screwing it up completely.. EmyN, Sooo sorry that your depressed to hear that from a fellow "female".. by you putting that in quotes are you implying that i am not a female?? or are you just that type of person that you feel the need to ridicule someone to make them feel depressed?? you know what gets my goat??? people who think they are better than others....and they forget there is another person on the other end of the quotes and threads... How about having an opinion about the question in the thread instead of scanning threads to make person attacks against people and not even have the decency to be on topic. Re: Freestanding Vs Wall Mounted Loo Roll and Towel Holders 14Feb 06, 2014 6:42 pm Well my mother is 77 and I purchased an 11 dollar suction dunny roll holder from bunnings and it works a treat. Definitely not offensive to look at either. They may even have towel rails as well. They work fine and are easily removed. On the being able or not, I am also not confident to drill into tiles. Hope this helps. Cheers Mark Re: Freestanding Vs Wall Mounted Loo Roll and Towel Holders 15Feb 06, 2014 6:50 pm I had already been on topic in my previous post so I didn't come in here purely to discuss sexism. I certainly didn't aim to make you feel "ridiculed and depressed" and sorry if I did. I meant to point out pervasive and implicit sexism in our culture which people (women included of course) are often totally unaware of. It's an issue close to my heart. I put "female" in quotation marks because I believe it should be irrelevant in your ability to perform said task. Like in another topic when someone said their "Asian neighbour has pulled down some trees". Unnecessary detail that is implicit racism. Obviously the way it was intended didn't actually come accross. I can see it's an issue close to your heart, just be mindful tho that not all people share your exact view tho.
