Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Dec 10, 2013 1:16 am I have these Fernco grateseals in my shower waste. Being that they restrict down there is a chance of blockage from hair. There should be a trap under it as per regulations so there should be no sewer gas coming up the pipe. Is there anything similar on the market to perform whatever this thing does?
Update: some issues with this device. difficult to remove. Re: Shower waste long drop to trap = loud noise 2Dec 10, 2013 4:48 pm I'm not aware of anything you can put in the pipe and wouldn't recommend it as it will only trap hair and soap which will lead to blockages. I have heard of people wrapping sound deadening material around the pipe. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! I've stuck an inspection camera down there and found it on the other side of the trap and now the next thing is to retrieve it. I'm considering some options. Send some fishing tape down there with a hook on the end and see if I can pull it out. Due to side-loading from using one hooking point it will probably require enough tension to flip the thing inside out so it can be pulled out. I may get a drill powered auger and sharpen up a double worm screw and bend the arms outwards a bit so it'll go into the funnel bit, punch through the rubber of the valve about halfway in, get entangled and then allow it to be pulled back out.
