Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 May 12, 2008 3:38 pm We are looking at doing a renovation/extension and only have a preliminary quote. I was just wondering if the price we have been given is reasonable.
Our bathroom is 1850 x 3000 with a linen cupboard that takes up some of that space from the hallway. We are looking at removing hte linen cupboard, having a bigger shower, move the vanity to between the shower and bath, and have the bath running under the window rather than along the wall. This should hopefully open up quite a small bathroom and make it more spacious. We know that it all has to be pulled out and new waterproofing has to be done, where the taps are for the bath now will become the taps for hte vanity, and the vanity taps will become the bath taps, so no big plumbing work. What would you expect to pay for this. We had absolutely no idea, and were quite shocked at the estimation. Thanks Andrea Re: Cost of bathroom reno 2May 12, 2008 5:42 pm Hi ellyash,
Welcome to the forum Not sure if this will help, but we partially renovated a small bathroom in a flat last summer. To paint, retile (with waterproofing) and put in a new vanity and some new taps to the bath and shower, we were getting quotes of around $4000. This did not include the cost of materials and there was no moving of anything around the room, (but there was a bit of rendering of the wall where the old tiles had pulled the plaster off the brickwork). My MIL was also shocked at the cost and so we had to go with the cheaper quote and it really wasn't worth it. We ended up repainting the bathroom as he did such a bad job and we really weren't happy with the standard of his work . I guess what I'm trying to say is that even though it might be a bit of a shock, don't let price alone guide your decision. cheers 'chelle We have a hand-over date...15/10...but I won't hold my breath! http://people-in-glass-houses.blogspot.com/ Re: Cost of bathroom reno 3May 12, 2008 8:01 pm You could do it yourself for about $3000 depending on tile choice, otherwise I imagine your quote would be around $8000-$10,000 Re: Cost of bathroom reno 4May 12, 2008 9:19 pm Have you priced the basic item costs - add that up, slap in a bit extra for the waterproofing and sundries, then double it for the labour and that's at least where you'll be starting price wise.
My parents recently got a quote to re-do an ensuite (just retile- put in a new shower, taps etc and low water use toilet = $9k Main bathroom with a similar job = $13k by a company they'd used 10 years earlier - they like their quality of work and know they are more expensive than others. Steve Re: Cost of bathroom reno 5May 13, 2008 4:28 pm Look at the detail in the quote. The minute you start repositioning items thats where the cost increase.....the plumbing. Try to get you floor PC items in the same place..if possible (are you on a slab or piers?...makes a big difference for this point) Hello It is good to have a planned bathroom reno to suit your budget and design, living for 10 years I think you need a bathtub 4 10352 start from at least $20,000 just for fixtures and finishes and then add on for moving plumbing and extra for a concrete floored house last new bathroom we installed in a… 1 17858 Bought in Nov 21 at the height of the market (classic).
