Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Nov 16, 2013 8:23 am Hi All! Upgrades what to do Would love peoples opinions on this decision. We have the standard under mount white sink with single mixer to the powder room, bathrooms and ensuite. Powder room is downstairs with single sink Bathroom is upstairs with double sink - this will be used by the kids who are young, if that helps opinions. Ensuite is also double bowl. We have the option to upgrade our sinks to the modern square above mount sinks. Need to decide do we stay ultra modern and do all sinks or do we just stick to maybe the one down stairs, that guests will actually see and stick to the under mount sink upstairs. For those that have over mount sinks, do they take a lot of counter space? Are they a pain to keep clean? I like the look of the above mount but are they practical for day to day? Thanks all for your input. Re: Bathroom upgrades 3Nov 18, 2013 10:59 am I've got above-mount round "noodle bowl" sinks (came as standard with my builder) and I love them. I don't find them hard to clean at all and actually think they give more counter space (as there is still bench underneath the widest part of the sink IYKWIM). However I was also offered the square above-mount sinks and didn't like them. I think the square corners would be harder to clean, they take up a lot of space on the counter and look generally a bit too "chunky" for my liking. They do make the vanity a bit lower for above-mounted sinks but my friends' kids still have to use a step stool to clean their teeth, wash their hands etc when at my house (but I remember having to do that with all sinks when I was a kid anyway lol). If I was you I would either upgrade all sinks or not upgrade any. As a purchaser I would prefer to have consistency throughout the house rather than one "fancy" sink for the guests. But that's just my opinion. Re: Bathroom upgrades 4Nov 18, 2013 4:36 pm Thanks for your input. It is good to see what others think, helps cement my ideas. If the budget can handle it, we are going to upgrade. It is one of those things, cheaper to do now and it will not get done later. Thanks again, I appreciate it. Re: Bathroom upgrades 5Nov 29, 2013 11:11 pm Yeah bathroom upgrades are always the tricky ones. I had a hard time doing it myself last year but thanks this year it was just easy. The ready to assemble ones are good to go if you are in a hurry but last, the budget is the factor that will make or break your choice in the end. Sink replacements are good and easy but it makes no sense if we need to do it repeatedly (that just means that it was not done correctly in the first attempt). This is the design that I choose to upgrade my Bathroom. Happy Renovating. The cabinets were designed to take the undermounted sink into account and is fairly wide so I've ended up with more storage than the original one we replaced. I think it's personal preference as to whether you want above or under mounted sinks Render your bathroom walls, two opinions versus the one, makes you wonder. 3 6057 Hi Geoff Install Puddle Flange prior to any screed.
