Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Aug 24, 2013 3:37 pm I am about to replace the toilet in our house. The current one is an S bend style. Our house is about 40 yrs old and at moment our toilet is raised off the floorboards sitting on a piece of wood. I've noticed in other older style houses similar to ours this is also the case and am wondering if anyone can tell me why this was done? Is there a reason why I should keep it raised or will I be able to fit the new toilet directly on the floorboards? Thanks. Re: Replacing toilet 2Aug 26, 2013 1:57 pm It may be that the bathroom originally had tiles on the floor . Is your sewer pipe below the existing toilet plastic ? I've seen old toilets replaced by new ones that had to be raised off the floor 40-50mm because the old pipes were cast iron and it would have been a big job to replace the pan fitting with a plastic one.
