Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Aug 20, 2013 2:34 pm My partner and I are renovating our bathroom and had planned on putting in mixers for all taps. A plumber just came to give us a quote and has suggested with the bath and shower to have ordinary taps rather than a mixer as he's seen many mixers fail and when they are installed behind a wall rather than exposed as it would be on a vanity, the repair can be quite costly as you'd have to remove tiles etc. anyone come across this issue before? Re: Bath and shower mixer? 2Aug 22, 2013 12:09 pm That's another point bit I still confused about among many other things I encounter during my renovation. Some says mixer is better, everyone is using them now! and some says no, they are not good, avoid them... So really, what's the myth about the mixers... what are the pros and cons? I am keen to know as well. Re: Bath and shower mixer? 3Aug 22, 2013 12:25 pm I prefer taps to a mixer, just because I can never seem to get the temperature exactly as I want it with a mixer, and I bump it (uncoordinated). However that's purely a personal preference, I know many people prefer a mixer. Re: Bath and shower mixer? 4Aug 22, 2013 2:32 pm The mixes feature in most modern bathrooms, particularly upper market ones. I have the same feelings towards them, trendy but temperature control is difficult and annoying. He is right in one sense, but only if it fails to the point it needs replacing. Now how many mixers fail that badly? Normally a change of cartridge is about the worse that can happen. Also if it is of such a concern if the mixer is on an internal wall it would be easier to go through the other side so no need to replace tiles. Unless of course the other side was also tiled. However that's purely a personal preference, I know many people prefer a mixer. Funny, with me it's the other way round... can never get it right with taps... and I'd use a lot more water. I find it annoying having to open two taps. Had mixers for 30 years now... never failed... (ok... have to admit, that was in Europe!) Re: Bath and shower mixer? 7Aug 27, 2013 5:47 pm Best solution is an instantaneous hot water system with controllers. I jump in the shower every morning set it to 42 turn just the hot water tap on and I know it will be the same day in day out. I hop out the wife changes to 40 does the same. So easy. You need to reference the manufactures installation guide, your supplier may have strengthened the base where it is not required to sit on a bed. 1 1834 Bathroom renovation will likely include a back-to-corner bath and we’re considering a freestanding tap with hand-held shower such as the picture included.
