Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Aug 15, 2013 9:21 am Me and my wife been having "discussion" about this for weeks now. For one of our bath rooms, we are still waving between put double or single basin vanity.
Initially we all agreed to put in double. But after rethink the double one we had in our previous home, we never actually use the other one. It's kind there just for the look of it. We got the plumber came in. He's pretty agree with me. But my builder thought double looks good... The vanity table will be 1.5m wide. I am more a guy go for the look of things. Maybe put just a single basin there will be a bit odd... m... Renovation is so hard... Not the job itself... but with all these decisions I have to make... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ok, here is the verdict... we went for double. Here is the drawing of it. Hope it comes out alright. Of course it does need to look right and not look shoehorned in but I think with 1.5m of vanity you can fit two in nicely. http://camdenbuild.blogspot.com.au/ by invite only please pm me Re: Single or Double... that's the question... 3Aug 16, 2013 7:54 am Double. Having lived with single for nearly 40 years and up to 5 people using the one bathroom, it pays to future proof! The amount of times Hubby and I are in the bathroom together is quite high, and having him trim his facial hair while I'm brushing my teeth is not appealing! 2 basins is wonderful....only wish we had done the same for the kids' bathroom when we built. Our bench top is 2.4 m long and my basin is 65cm long x 43 cm wide. I then had room to bring my tall glass cupboards down to bench for more storage. If I had twin basin I would not have had the extra storage. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Single or Double... that's the question... 6Aug 16, 2013 9:09 am I reckon def double basins. I'm amazed you don't use your second one now! Hubby and I are always trying to brush teeth/makeup/wash hands etc at the same time morning and night. Can't wait til our house is built! Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65085 Re: Single or Double... that's the question... 7Aug 16, 2013 11:07 am We are going double because we tend to fall over each other a bit. However, if you already have a double and never use it, I would go single. Re: Single or Double... that's the question... 8Aug 16, 2013 8:42 pm We get asked why we didn't do a double sink in our ensuite. Our bench is also 1.5m long. I didn't want another sink to clean and also we wanted bench space to be able to have the toothbrush, hair straightener etc. I hate when I see people who have put in double sinks and end up with no bench space. But go with what works for you not what will look good for others, it's your house! Re: Single or Double... that's the question... 9Aug 17, 2013 10:15 am We have single - the plan had single and we didn't change it - not sure if double would of fit - bench is 1.2m long. But we have no problems at all with single, doesn't bother me at all. Re: Single or Double... that's the question... 10Aug 17, 2013 3:20 pm I decided to go double in the ensuite and single in the main bathroom. The main bathroom is a single room and I couldn't see the point of a double basin. I might look at having a wider vanity if it will fit. That's our reasoning as well, although our bench is 1.2m. One basin with lots of bench space feels more spacious to me than two basins with a tiny bit of bench space. We'll be going from one bathroom with a toilet in it to one bathroom and one ensuite, both with separate toilets so I'll feel like I'm in heaven - tripling the number of basins to clean instead of just doubling them might take the shine off it a bit ~ Anne I used to be indecisive but now I'm not quite sure. Eeek - We're embarking on a knockdown rebuild! Click here for our build thread Our blog: kdrhome.wordpress.com Re: Single or Double... that's the question... 12Aug 17, 2013 3:40 pm we did a single. we had the option of extending our bench and making it long enough for 2 sinks but still would have ended up with less space around each than we have around our single. I like the space we have around our single sink and that there is room for a laundry basket and other items either side of the bench. I do love that single sink picture above. What lovely side cupboards. Stunning. We did think about double sinks but couldn't imagine using them. Both of us are rarely in the bathroom at the same time. In 4 years of living here I could count on one hand the number of times we've both been in there together using the bench area. Maybe if you don't plan on staying in your house long it might be worth while as it is a bit of a trend but only if you have heaps of room. Don't sacrifice bench space just to add a second sink. You'd be better off doing what was done above. Re: Single or Double... that's the question... 13Aug 17, 2013 4:13 pm Slightly Random fmac We get asked why we didn't do a double sink in our ensuite. The three places we lived only had one bathroom and the toilet was in there!! Can't wait for a seperate toilet!! Re: Single or Double... that's the question... 14Aug 18, 2013 8:08 am I'm doing a single sink, but it will be a larger - wider - one, so not nearly so cramped if two people needed it at once. I find that we have plenty of space on top-but I'm not one for keeping copious amounts of makeup & toiletries on display..that's what the cupboards underneath are for. DH & I get ready in the mornings around the same time & at night and it has solved the elbowing each other out of the way issue PLUS has confirmed my opinion that he is the messy one. Re: Single or Double... that's the question... 17Aug 20, 2013 1:10 pm We HAVE a double in our ensuite now, and never use the second one, I would have preferred the extra bench space honestly. In the build we had doubles in all the bathrooms, I wanted to get rid of them all. However our builder pointed out that doubles in the ensuite tend to be a selling point (I disagree and see them as a waste of space). However hubby agreed with the builder and we have a double in the master ensuite. As the main house cleaner, I put my foot down at having a double in the guest ensuite and the kids' bathroom. We now have a single in the guest ensuite with more bench space, and a single in the kids with a floor to ceiling line closet in place of the second sink. Re: Single or Double... that's the question... 18Aug 20, 2013 7:28 pm We only have a single in the main bathroom-no need for two in there. Our vanities are wallhung BTW.
