Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Jul 24, 2013 10:04 pm Why is it that all the frameless shower doors I see have the door hinged to a narrow fixed glass panel which is fixed to the wall? Is it possible to have the door hinged to the wall, then have the fixed panel on the opening side - attached to the other other fixed glass panel? If it's possible, are there reasons it isn't a good idea? I think if the door is hinged to the wall it's easier to access the taps which are on that wall, rather than reaching around a fixed panel? This seems more sensible to me, yet none of them seem to be like that so am I missing something? (ie. stupid) Aha! I found an example of what I want: [youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rBGkOHf2l88[youtube] - in case you don't understand what I mean Re: frameless shower door - crazy question? 2Jul 25, 2013 9:20 am If its hinged to the wall, you'll get large gaps as walls are never straight. Furthermore you won't be able to caulk the gap and water will run out on the side as I'm assuming the shower head will be at the door end. Re: frameless shower door - crazy question? 3Jul 25, 2013 9:50 am If hinging to the wall, you'll need strong support in the wall because it's only fixed in two places. The fixed panel gets stiffened when siliconed to the tiles. Re: frameless shower door - crazy question? 5Jul 25, 2013 1:24 pm Yes you can easily hinge to the wall. I have just done it for a customer! You have to be aware of a few things though You really need a stud directly behind the hinges to give it enough strength. Depending on where the door is water might come out. If the door is at the end of the shower then you wont have any problems at all. Internet suggested it should be $85-100/m2 to lay them.… 3 12387 2 4491 I'll look into different shower heads and ask the plumber about some engineering and see what he says. Thanks 2 9563 |
