Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Jul 17, 2013 9:04 am Hi All Needing more help....this time Moisture and Condensation woo hoo! To give you a bit of history the house is a 60's/70's double brick unit. The bath has been converted into a shower then with a european laundry. So a few things. Every morning condensation on the windows. Not much I can really do about that as not prepared to invest in double glazing yet. The other thing is in the laundry/bathroom all we have in ventilation is a old school fan which is in the window and a window that opens a little bit. What are some solutions please on how to get the moisture out! Going to replace the fan...but a suggestion on fan would be great. Other side is how do I ventilate the dryer considering it's a double brick home??? I'm also going to invest in some damprid - even though I don't think that's going to make a huge difference but right now anything would help! Look forward to the creative advice! jenjen Re: Moisture and Condensation - I hate you! 2Jul 17, 2013 2:17 pm Do you have good insulation in the ceiling over that room? If you don't then install some. Condensation happens when warm air meets a cold surface. Extracting the air from your dryer to the outside is another must either through the wall or up into the ceiling then out through the eaves. Also run the room fan every time someone has a shower either manually or via a timer. Stewie Re: Moisture and Condensation - I hate you! 3Jul 17, 2013 11:54 pm I agree with everything Stewie said. How long ought you run the fan? I think I read somewhere its 20 minutes, does anybody know? One really weird thing I noticed is that there's less condensation on the side of the window with the flyscreen. Double glazing and external shutters help a lot but you wouldn't think a screen full of holes would make any difference. I don't know but perhaps there's something you could rig up as a temporary solution? Re: Moisture and Condensation - I hate you! 4Jul 18, 2013 1:29 am Don't vent the dryer, get a condenser dryer. We had no bathroom or laundry windows in our last house and looked into the solar venti and the velux window skylights..... we ended up selling and now building. http://www.solarventi.com/ ______________________________________________________________________ Signed up Jan 2013........Almost done! My thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65763 Re: Moisture and Condensation - I hate you! 5Jul 18, 2013 8:26 am JJ, that will depend on the fan. Most decent fans will state on the box how many cubic feet or cubic metres per minute on the box they can shift. There is some BCA requirement or recommendation about how much air a utility room needs to return it to a habitable state ( I think there is a moisture level in the air thats recommended ) but I don't know what it is. Stewie these look like missing batts. Go up and take a look. But yeah moisure meter is a completely different tool 4 9455 This is the current bathroom with a european laundry. Overall internal dimensions are 3.69 wide and 3.65m deep, including the footprint of the laundry. There is a toilet… 0 10343 |
