We can also choose from any supplier we like. So how on earth do you pick a shower head? What specs are important? What's the difference between a $50 head and a $300 head? Re: How do you choose a shower head? 2Jul 09, 2013 10:53 am I found the staff at Reece to be really helpful in explaining the different materials and technologies used in the brands they sell. They tell you the pros and cons of each. We ended up buying ours based on the fact air gets mixed in with the water and their demo shower in store made it feel like a really good "full" and high pressure shower without wasting a lot of water. Also came with a very good warranty which gives you some peace of mind as to the quality of the product. main thing is pick the type you want and go from there! rain vs normal (rain not great for long hair..) vs a double with both / rail vs fixed / handheld? great for cleaning the shower! / don't be put off by the "plastic" hose on handhelds vs metal..they won't rust! / do you want different functions on the shower head? high/low pressure? Anything we bought and supplied to the builder had to be Wels (i think thats how you spell it!) rated so make sure they meet aussie standards before you buy them..cheap online bargains not so good! Re: How do you choose a shower head? 3Jul 09, 2013 11:43 am Don't buy one without seeing it being demo'd in a store. There's nothing worse than ending up with a flash looking shower head that results in you then needing to spend your time running around the shower to catch the pitiful amount of water coming out of it! Re: How do you choose a shower head? 5Jul 25, 2013 10:10 am Water saving shower heads have really taken the fun out of showers Re: How do you choose a shower head? 6Jul 25, 2013 1:28 pm kylie40 What is exactly a rain shower and why is it not great for long hair? The shower head is so big it wets your entire body at once. Its like standing in the rain. We have one that is 400x400 square in our ensuite. My wife has no problems washing her long hair. We did remove the restrictor though. An few things to note when buying a showerhead: 1. What type of water pressure system is it designed for (mains pressure, equal low pressure, high pressure). 2. What type of spray is it? (general needle sprays vs. multi-function sprays vs. satinjet spray) 3. How many years warranty are you getting? Now a $50 showerhead generally is made of cheaper materials, even though most showers are Chrome Plated now the materials used inside are different and also the quality of build; there have been many times where a $50 shower will break apart after a few hundred uses. There will also be technological differences in producing the spray you want and possibly less warranty. For a $300 showerhead you can expect it be made of better materials and a good warranty to go with it. The product will also last longer and will probably produce a spray that better suit your needs (it really depends on the product you buy). If you are looking for a quick DIY rescue for a house you are renting out a $50 shower head will generally do fine. But if it's for personal use, I reckon it's best to get a good quality shower. Re: How do you choose a shower head? 8Jun 21, 2015 10:37 pm I know this is an old post but I'm at the stage where I need to choose a shower head. I really wanted a rain shower type but I've not read many positives about them. The only one I've read that people seem to like is $$$. I love the way they look but don't want to have to run around under it to get wet. We will be on tank water, no mains but I'm not sure if that makes a difference with water pressure?? Any experiences with rain showers or if you have a great shower head that you love I'd really like to hear about it. Thanks Loving our new home, Upper Hunter NSW on 2.5 acres Re: How do you choose a shower head? 9Jun 22, 2015 12:13 am I am putting Grohe 400mm rain shower in the master and 310mm rain showers in the other ensuites. All will have a hand rail shower as well. I have used these in plenty of hotels (maybe different brands but essentially the same). Recommend getting the shower heads and rail showers from Europe as you will save upto 66% doing do. I thought long and hard about this as all other items need to be DR Brass I had to purchase all the other Grohe products from Australia. They are all rated at 9l per minute which seems pretty standard. I will see if the restrictors need removing but I suspect they will be fine. Re: How do you choose a shower head? 10Jun 22, 2015 1:28 pm I've just put one of these in. Best of both worlds, my wife hates rain shower heads and I love them. Not cheap though! http://www.reece.com.au/bathrooms/produ ... il-9503040 Re: How do you choose a shower head? 11Jun 22, 2015 5:43 pm I just put these in. Love it and so does hubby http://www.reece.com.au/bathrooms/produ ... ck-2252096 Re: How do you choose a shower head? 12Jun 25, 2015 4:21 pm WOW, some of those shower heads are $$$. I think though you get what you pay for, thanks so much for responding to my question. I went to Reece yesterday and the young guy was very helpful. He took about six shower heads off from the display and hooked them up to the tap so I could have a look at the flow of them. The one I liked the best was the Methven Satinjet so I've decided that even though I love the look of the rainshower it just won't be strong enough for us, especially on tank water, no mains pressure. I figure I am under budget for the rest of my tap ware so I'll spend the extra I saved on the shower heads. Nothing worse than having a weak shower after a long day. Loving our new home, Upper Hunter NSW on 2.5 acres I'll look into different shower heads and ask the plumber about some engineering and see what he says.
