Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Jun 22, 2013 12:08 am Hi! We have a tiny outdated ensuite that desperately needs work. It's an awkward layout and we want to modernise it as cheap as possible. We are planning to DIY with the aid of my FIL who was a builder. We would no doubt save money keeping everything where it is as far as toilet, shower, vanity. But I was hoping to get some advice on the layout and whether a frameless glass shower would be doable. Ensuite is 196cm wide by 160cm deep. Entrance from bedroom is a small door we are planning on pulling out to put an internal slider or keep it open. Happy to move entrance if needed. Directly in front of doorway is the shower with taps/shower head on right side wall. Looking from doorway is shower, then to the left is the vanity. On the left hand wall is a window with toilet underneath. On doorway wall is the towel rail and toilet roll holder. The initial plan was to knock out shower and change shower head onto back wall (as you look from doorway straight ahead) and put frameless glass in between shower and vanity. Replace vanity but leave taps/mirror etc where it is. Then put in wall mounted toilet with wall recessed cistern where the toilet already is (under window). Any thoughts whether this would work? Would it be very awkward walking through doorway into shower area where there's no screen to stop water spray? Could this be a big issue? Thanks Would upload a pic if I knew how! Re: Tiny ensuite - advice please 3Jun 22, 2013 7:49 am Best source of ideas for problems like this is go and look round a caravan dealers yard. Caravan designers put a lot of thought into fitting a lot into a little space. One thing they do is always open the door outwards. Normally a much better solution than a sliding door. Re: Tiny ensuite - advice please 5Jun 23, 2013 4:54 pm My initial thoughts are, sliding door won't work unless you rip the entire wall out and re frame it to accept the door cavity. And toilet with hidden cistern wont work unless you also fur out that window wall as the cistern needs a deeper cavity in the wall. Also frameless glass to ground next to a vanity sounds a bit odd as you'd be looking at the side of the vanity up against the glass. Better to build a knee wall there, up to top of vanity and backslash then glass on top. Re: Tiny ensuite - advice please 6Jul 18, 2013 1:37 pm Thanks for the replies! We are doing our main bathroom now as well courtesy of a busted water pipe soaking under the floor. We have gutted it and keeping the ensuite for now until we have a the bathroom working. Will try upload a pic Re: Tiny ensuite - advice please 7Jul 18, 2013 2:56 pm Reece have an online planner where you can play around with the layout. Bugger about the busted water pipe! Thanks for the suggestion. The space between shower and sinks was too tight. I agree about the toilet location. So I have tried two other options: The lower one is… 3 6118 the step up is 30mm and wanting it to be flat . how much does the concrete have to be lowered .we plan on removing bath and lenghten shower and adding seat. the old bath… 0 11799 |
