Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 May 25, 2013 8:28 pm I have hit a cross road in the design of our Ensuite and WIR. Options:- Option 1 Leave design as is, close off wall to WIR in ensuite and add a CSD from the bedroom, add a hinged door on the ensuite entrance. This means the opening of the WIR will be on the main wall right next to bed, we have a KS so doing this means the bedside will go right next to the door, and leave a space of about 80cm on the other side of the bed near the window to walk around. DH is worried its not enough space, and that the 2 doors near each other will look cluttered Option 2:- As per option 1 but move the wall in the ensuite flush, gives more space for the opening of the WIR, maybe 20cm more, but then toilet will be closer to the shower, and we will lose the long window for a window that sits above the toilet. Option 3:- our 3rd change, and as it stands but even though it gives the room a nice wall for a feature or some wall paper practical wise it doesn't sound too good for me, having to walk past a smelly toilet all the time after someone has made some deposits in there. Here are the plans Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I love the look that option 3 will give, but i think option 2 is more practical, and gives a little bit more WIR space. which we need. but then i like the idea of the long window too so option 1 would be better, but option one means more space taken away for our bed. What is more important! i have no idea. Who walks past there toilet to get to their WIR - Pro's and cons please??? im so confused. i dont want to regret this decision. Eden Brae Drysdale 27 | The Blog Re: Walking through Ensuite past toilet to WIR - who has it? 2May 25, 2013 8:55 pm I don't really love the idea of having to walk through the ensuite to get to the WIR, so I'd do anything possible to avoid that. So the back/top/bedhead end of your bed will be going along that WIR wall, is that right? How long is the WIR? It looks like you're losing a bit of length in options 1 and 2, will you still have enough hanging space? 1st build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=59376 *New*-2nd build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70324&p=1154282#p1154282 Re: Walking through Ensuite past toilet to WIR - who has it? 3May 25, 2013 9:03 pm I would also avoid having to walk through the ensuite to get to the WIR too. Especially if it is right next to the toilet. Do you need a door on your WIR? I would have the entrance to the WIR on the wall behind the bed.. That's what we ideally wanted but it wouldn't work with out layout - could definitely work with yours though! 1st build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=59376 *New*-2nd build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70324&p=1154282#p1154282 Re: Walking through Ensuite past toilet to WIR - who has it? 5May 25, 2013 9:48 pm Thanks Zalira, it would work with ours. i like the idea of being able to close them off which is why i wanted the cavity doors or hinged doors on them. i like privacy especcially to hide away from the kids. Locking the bathroom door and having a peaceful shower for 10 mins is the only me time i get all day lol Stella bella - its not really that much space maybe 20-30cm shorter in the other options. Eden Brae Drysdale 27 | The Blog Re: Walking through Ensuite past toilet to WIR - who has it? 6May 25, 2013 9:58 pm I would go with the option having more wardrobe space! Option 2... We just built the Hawthorne 31, and I thought it had a big enough WIR, and sadly it doesn't... now that I am trying to fit all my clothes in it. Built a Hawthorne 31 with EB nessjeffdreamhouse.blogspot.com.au Building an investment now with New Living homes... We are at nearly finished... Just landscaping and driveway to go! Re: Walking through Ensuite past toilet to WIR - who has it? 7May 25, 2013 10:07 pm I would go with option 2 and have CSD for both doors. It shouldn't look too cluttered with the doors together. If you are still worried then are you able to move the door in the wir in option 2 to the other side of that wall? Our BIR now is so squished i have to store the previous season clothes in vac bags and swap them around between summer and winter. We are looking at this option. but i dont know if walking through WIR to the ensuite is a good idea. Make sure you have enough space between the corner and the doors so you don't have to cut the architrave down to fit them though. A blog about our renovation http://notmynightmare.blogspot.com.au/ Re: Walking through Ensuite past toilet to WIR - who has it? 10May 26, 2013 10:35 am Ok here is another option this keeps heath happy as its only 1 door visable, and keeps me happy that i dont walk past a stinky toilet. thoughts? mirrored door into WIR, possible mirror on both sides maybe? Mirror will cover the whole space above vanity right upto window, get to keep full length mirror too. Have you considered swapping the rooms around to something like this? http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/s507/grumblebum54/thoughts_zps74f96bc3.jpg Regards, Grumbles Re: Walking through Ensuite past toilet to WIR - who has it? 12May 26, 2013 4:16 pm Yep - hate BiR in bathrooms or entry to them. Too much moisture. We have a separate door in bedroom for our BiR. Re: Walking through Ensuite past toilet to WIR - who has it? 13May 26, 2013 8:17 pm Thanks grumble. I had thought about doing the e suite in there. The wir is only 1.3 wide though. It's a great idea Saint do you think it will be ok with a door from wir to e suite? We won't leave it open. I hope it's ok. It's hard for me to convince hubby to change. Can't win all the decisions. Lol Eden Brae Drysdale 27 | The Blog Re: Walking through Ensuite past toilet to WIR - who has it? 14May 26, 2013 9:05 pm I have seen plans in which entry to ensuite is via WIR, I dont mind that and sometimes I think is good thing when wardrobe is a buffer between bathroom and bedroom - for person sleeping not to be woken by shower/hairdryer/flushing toilet noise. However I would not do the reverse - where entry to WIR is via bathroom. I think your option 2 in OP is the best solution. Re: Walking through Ensuite past toilet to WIR - who has it? 16May 27, 2013 8:59 am because I like having private time in the bathroom - going to the toilet alone or shaving my legs alone etc - and then what happens if your partner wants to get his shoes or item of clothing from wardobe? and vice versa - if my partner is on the toilet - and he sometimes stays there for 20 minutes or so - then I want to be able to get things from WIR without going through toilet area. So I wouldnt like bathroom being a thouroughfare to somewhere else - whereas going thru WIR is not the same issue - selecting your clothes/changing your shoes etc does not have the same privacy issues as toileting/bathroom activities. Lol It does sound odd - but at least its separate to main area. Couldn't you have the door to WiR on bedroom wall ? Have it at one end - ie near those 3 windows - to allow bedroom setting to fit on wall ? Then close off door to ensuite from BiR. And have door to ensuite in BR corner nearest ensuite - facing shower. You could also just have an arch to ensuite - no door - in that corner of BR nearest the ensuite ? As its the bedroom - no-one else can see in. Re: Walking through Ensuite past toilet to WIR - who has it? 18May 28, 2013 6:51 am Helyn very valid point. This is my greatest concern at the moment. Hubbybdoesntbwant to change it. Ill just leave it. We have exhausted all possible avenues and he still wants to leave it his way. I think I'll give in and he can have this one. I know I'll win others so it all evens out Eden Brae Drysdale 27 | The Blog yep sounds good make the footing bigger to to allow for the pipe in the middle 3 7326 Hi When it rains in a particular direction water comes through the security door.
