Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 May 12, 2013 1:09 pm Hi, we currently have x2 showers in our House which are 900x900. In our new House we wish to have one standard 900x900 and the one in our Ensuite much bigger, with maybe twin heads. What is the biggest shower base you can get? I don't mind if I have to build 2 walls at each end so Glass is only on one length if that is what needs to be done. We just want a decent sized shower that we can both go in if need be (or we wish! ) Col Re: Shower Bases 2May 12, 2013 2:52 pm Is there any reason you want a shower base?? I personally much prefer a shower with out a base. Don't mind having the Shower base but can't see another way unless somelse has a suggestion, bathrooms and showers are not something I have really done before. Col. We are up off the ground and just had the waterproofer in last week who laid down a green waterproof membrane on the yellow tongue floorboards and up the walls where the showers go ready for the tiles to go over. You have whatever you want! ----------------------------------------------- http://pab34newdigs.blogspot.com.au/ ----------------------------------------------- Re: Shower Bases 5May 13, 2013 7:01 am DefenderOwner [We won't be on a Concrete Slab, so probably have to have a shower base?? I have two bathrooms in my house upstairs. They don't have a concrete slab and also don't have a shower base. Shower bases are not needed and in my opinion can look cheap. It will be a tiled base and we don't have a concrete slab. They water proof the sub flooring then put a screeding bed on top and then tile on top of that. This way you can have fully frameless shower screens straight to the floor which looks so much better! I didn’t have the ensuite’s sub-floor lowered by 30-40mm to accommodate the depth of screed at the door. ----------------------------------------------- http://pab34newdigs.blogspot.com.au/ ----------------------------------------------- Re: Shower Bases 10May 13, 2013 6:58 pm Our shower is 2100 long but there is a 1000 opening so I suppose the shower section is 1100 x 900. We don't have a door, it's all tiled. You just walk into the shower. In total it measures 2100 x 900 with a 1000 opening. That means section of wall that runs between the shower and basins is 1100. IMO - definitely avoid a tray if possible! I agree that they just look cheap. Try and make a 'walk in' shower, no glass. That's what we have and I love it, feels so luxurious at home! 1st build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=59376 *New*-2nd build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70324&p=1154282#p1154282 Re: Shower Bases 15May 14, 2013 8:52 pm We won't have a mould problem as I'm going to have our grout colour sealed. Our current shower grout is colour sealed and it keeps it looking new. We hate them. Again - the less edges the better IMO in a shower. We got our way and have flat surfaces - awesome. As you age you appreciate no steps etc. Surely hobs are things of the past ! Re: Shower Bases 17May 24, 2013 2:24 pm Home angels I love your set up. I would love having no glass to clean. Does very much water escape without a screen? This is going to be a must in my next build. At the moment we have a large walk in shower with just a sheet of glass. It's pretty easy to keep clean. No idea re water escape as our house isn't built yet. Fingers crossed I'll be able to answer your question by Christmas time I don't thin it will be an issue. The wall is 1100mm long and even if water splashes back a bit there shouldn't be any problems as it will all be tiled.
