Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Mar 31, 2013 4:41 pm Hello everybody! Happy Easter! I've got selections coming up on Tuesday and have been focusing so much on my kitchen that my bathroom selections feel a little neglected! I thought I would ask your advice I am going with checkered tiles in the wet areas, 400x400 euphoria tiles from Beaumont. They'll be laid at a diagonal. Now I'm having a hard time deciding on the colours and other bathroom choices! Here is the ensuite: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ So either I can get the charcoal and white euphoria tiles: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Or concrete and white: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The two vinyl samples surrounding the tiles are the most likely candidates for flooring throughout the rest of the house. One under my feet is Karndean Talpa and the other is Karndean Loose Lay Country Oak My concern is.......I have two hairy white cats and their hair shows up less on the concrete tiles. However, with the vinyl and concrete, plus a claw foot tub I don't want everything to look too country. The charcoal shows hair a little more but doesn't look as country, but might it look too busy? The walls and shower will be tiled in white subway tiles with gray grout, no accent tiles, either flat or beveled tiles not sure yet. Also we're trying to get a claw foot tub added in black. That's another thing I wanted to ask about. I will have to draw some diagrams and ask later So what do you guys think? Any comments or advice would really be appreciated Also here is the light we're thinking of putting up: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ HD Re: Bathroom selections advice needed! 2Mar 31, 2013 7:09 pm i have gone for a black and white bathroom what i ended up doing is black floor tiles then a black feature wall. this wall will be where the freestanding black and white bath. all the other walls will be white tiles . on the side of the shower (which will just be a blade ) i have in the niche a black bamboo tile. we were looking at the black and white tiles but decided it would be too busy for us. i would go the charcoal and white tiles like those. i have seen the claw foot black and white baths the price was around the two thousand but you maybe able to source the bath cheaper this company has the black claw foot bath http://www.castironbaths.com/double-end ... gory_id=54 http://www.clawfootbaths.com.au/Liontub%20-%201710.htm Re: Bathroom selections advice needed! 3Mar 31, 2013 7:24 pm 1rocky i have gone for a black and white bathroom what i ended up doing is black floor tiles then a black feature wall. this wall will be where the freestanding black and white bath. all the other walls will be white tiles . on the side of the shower (which will just be a blade ) i have in the niche a black bamboo tile. we were looking at the black and white tiles but decided it would be too busy for us. i would go the charcoal and white tiles like those. i have seen the claw foot black and white baths the price was around the two thousand but you maybe able to source the bath cheaper this company has the black claw foot bath http://www.castironbaths.com/double-end ... gory_id=54 http://www.clawfootbaths.com.au/Liontub%20-%201710.htm Hey 1rocky! Your bathroom sounds really nice I don't suppose you have pictures? I looooove black feature walls, must create such a nice dramatic look in your bathroom! Are you getting the cast iron black and white bath? I was looking at castironbaths.com, they just had a sale, a friendly guy there is holding the sale price for me because I'm having issues with my builder. I think it might have been you I discussed checkered tiles with before was it? Yes I'm nervous it will be busy, but I'm planning on keeping everything else pretty simple (probably white vanity with black benchtop and the rest of the room probably white or a soft grey) HD Re: Bathroom selections advice needed! 4Mar 31, 2013 7:52 pm hi this may help here is my vanity Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ bath will be a caroma noir our builder is getting this for us Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ shower niche Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ main bathroom tile Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ when i was looking at the checkered pattern i was thinking of just having the white tiles on the walls and having the checkered floor tiles and then letting the bath be a feature. Oooooooohhh. That is looking great so far! I love the look of your vanity with the black counter, I was thinking of doing mine like that too ! The bamboo tiles in your shower niche are really nice accent in there too to tie in with the black. I also really love your tub....that is going to be SO nice to have a soak in! Yes I see what you mean....definitely would not get checkerboard up the shower wall, it would be too much. That's why I'm sticking with the white subway tiles Thank you for sharing your photos! Mine is still a long way off but I will share too when I can! I was thinking either the white with the cement or white with charcoal My other worry is with a black claw-foot tub in such a small space, if it'll work. I'm having my ensuite extended by like 26 cms so there should be enough space between tub and vanity but the bathroom entrance will have the tub in the way so I'll have to widen the entrance so it's not cramped. HD Re: Bathroom selections advice needed! 8Apr 01, 2013 6:59 am this is the worry we had .working out to fit, if we had the bath the opposite wall it would have blocked the entrance so we moved it to other wall it is good when in planning stage as you can move to suit. i saw a lovely design from coral of ensuite bathroom not good at drawing but hope this gives you an idea i have added the freestanding bath instead of the enclosed the loo also had a door Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ also just have a blade (solid piece of glass) for shower also you could move the bath to the wall near the shower sorry not thinking straight about the grey i would go white with white Re: Bathroom selections advice needed! 9Apr 02, 2013 11:11 pm Littlewing, I also love the vanity photos, I would like to reserve my judgement about the black bath 1rocky until I see it in position....... although I do like your taste (the vanity is great)! The first two baths 1rocky posted links to are not my taste, (I think the silver coloured claw feet on the one looks cheap, although the price sure isn't)! The other one looks a bit odd, perhaps because the ones I looked at were more traditional, (roll top, gold claw feet)? I hope you don't mind me being honest? Floor tiles are always a problem because the light ones can quickly look dirty and the black ones show up everything! I've had four cats, (all different colours) and they leave hair on every surface, so it will drive you crazy trying to co-ordinate all the colours together............ without thinking about the cats! lol The one thing I realised when I renovated in January was that I couldn't fit some of the things I wanted in my small bathroom. Everything was a compromise, (ie; the larger vanity - for storage took up all the space between the bath and the wall). I would have loved a claw foot bath, but I don't have a bathroom/house big enough to show it off! All my research online for a black and white tiled floor said: done to death......... or.......... always a classic! grrr! Make up your mind! The floor area you have to tile can dictate what you can get away with. I had practically none! http://img560.imageshack.us/img560/7096/seyeview.jpg We went with a silver grey floor tile to match the silver grey in the wallpaper, (less dominant colour). The walls are white high sheen horizontally laid tiles and the whole bathroom colour can be changed every few years. http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/9497/img2055edit.jpg I think I prefer your second photo tiles, but why not buy the tiles you are certain of and take home a few samples of the others...... to see them in that light. I loved some samples in the shop, but hated them once I got them home! I have two alcoves in my new bathroom, one in the shower and one on the side of the bath. No more shower caddies! lol http://img855.imageshack.us/img855/25/img2074edit.jpg Re: Bathroom selections advice needed! 10Apr 03, 2013 4:21 am no worries mrsperfect. even hubby is holding judgement my choices is not to everyones taste the light fitting you have in your bathroom i am having something similar in cream in two of the bedrooms they are nice but your black is fantastic. Re: Bathroom selections advice needed! 11Apr 03, 2013 8:31 am There are only downlights in the bathroom, do you mean the black bird cage? I thought I'd enhance the birds in the wallpaper by having an open bird cage in the corner. It looks great at night with a lit candle in it! Have you considered LED downlights (cheaper to run, don't date as much as some light fittings). Re: Bathroom selections advice needed! 12Apr 03, 2013 10:13 am hi yes the birdcage. as soon as they are installed will post pics they are in storage waiting in the bathroom and vanity area we are having led downlights same as in the theatre and family meals areas also front portico and garages i think i have around 30 downlights around the house at moment. Re: Bathroom selections advice needed! 13Apr 03, 2013 3:38 pm Just on the downlights..........we've found LED's should be spaced closer together as they can be more direct, (less spread of light) and can create dark patches in a room. We upgraded to LED (from the older sort) and found that we had to angle the light more specifically than before. I hope they are as efficient as they say! lol Re: Bathroom selections advice needed! 14Apr 03, 2013 7:10 pm thanks for the tip mrsperfect. i also hope they are as efficient as they say How much are you ahead in payments compared to where the build is at? Have you fully drawn down the loan? 5 11927 Hi All, I engaged a tradie to install concrete retaining wall 600-800mm high over 32 meters in Victoria.
