Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Apr 23, 2013 12:55 am Hi all, I'm not sure that this is the best layout for our ensuite - it feels like a lot of wasted space with the diagonal pathway from door to door but on the other hand, maybe it will feel spacious? Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Uploaded with ImageShack.us We would prefer a separate toilet (so the main part of the ensuite can act like an airlock LOL) but the builder has said they don't like doing internal ones (plus I like being able to have the window open an inch or so). We have one bathroom for the whole house at the moment with the toilet in the same room and I'm not a huge fan. We're probably going to have vinyl planks so a tiled in situ shower is out (would love one but vinyl planks win) and so we need to stick to standard poly base sizes for that. The one in the current plan is 1200 x 900. All we've really come up with is to change the door to a cavity slider and move it across to the middle of the ensuite wall - gives us the option to either make the vanity longer (and have one or two windows above instead of a skinny one to the floor) or put some other storage there, eg a laundry hamper. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Uploaded with ImageShack.us We thought about also moving the toilet door across a little and make it a cavity slider too which would make a little alcove next to the shower for shelving, another towel rail, etc. But would it be weird if we moved both doors? That also then means if you're standing at the vanity you're blocking the toilet door as well. Another possibility was to deepen the alcove next to the shower and take a bit of space from the WIR also in the second plan above (use the smaller space for ties or jewellery or something) but I'm not sold on it. This is already doing my head in and we haven't even started on the specifics of cabinetry in the kitchen, etc, yet! ~ Anne I used to be indecisive but now I'm not quite sure. I agree. Toilet first, still have it enclosed, vanity on the inside wall, and I'd have a long walk-in shower where the toilet currently is, but enter from outside wall end. Means its a straight line as you walk through. Hope that made sense! 2 Re: Ensuite layout help 4Apr 25, 2013 10:36 am Re: Ensuite layout help 6Apr 27, 2013 9:28 am Thanks for the advice on the plan. After a busy week we hope to get some time tonight to start fiddling around with it and trying out different options We have our toilet incorporated into our single bathroom at the moment and would much prefer it to be separated. I'm sure most mums will understand the attraction of being able to shut the door and be in there all on my own - and I won't have to kick my husband out when he's halfway through shaving or whatever like I do now. Vinyl planks are fine in a bathroom as long as they're installed correctly according to both the manufacturer (Karndean) and posts from people on here who've got them. I wouldn't use looselay planks and you can't use them as a shower base. I totally despise cleaning grout (especially in a family of young males who have accuracy issues!) so as soon as I heard about vinyl planks and confirmed they can be used in wet areas, I was sold Plus I like the idea of not having different floor heights at the transition between vinyl and tiles. ~ Anne I used to be indecisive but now I'm not quite sure. However if its your second its not quite as bad... The main toilet is his and the ensuite toilet is yours haha. The funny thing is, it's what we have now (toilet in the bathroom) and it's not the end of the world. Just imagine when we have two toilets. One for the boys and DH and one for me (Such a pity that I'm the only female LOL) ~ Anne I used to be indecisive but now I'm not quite sure. Eeek - We're embarking on a knockdown rebuild! Put the tiolet where the shower is and the shower where the toilet is. Have the shower recess longer as a towel off area and you wont need a door. The nook next to the shower can be used for storage. The toilet can then also be moved across and enclosed. this would also provide more space for the WIR. Lastly i would put Double vanity. Apologies I banged it up very quick,, rough and ready but you should be able to get the general idea. Just my 0.02 Ciao MArk Re: Ensuite layout help 10Apr 28, 2013 12:15 pm Only thing is she and her builder were not keen on an internal toilet. but maybe you could do this but not have it completley enclosed, but use some kind of high glass window to vent it to the bathroom? The maybe flip the vanity and toilet positions. Extraction fan in the dunny and shes good to go. I think its a shame to not efficiently use space. Thanks for the suggestion. The space between shower and sinks was too tight. I agree about the toilet location. So I have tried two other options: The lower one is… 3 6144 You never have a fridge against wall as you’ve drawn.
