Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Feb 27, 2013 11:58 am I have brought a house, in which the previous owner painted everything. He has painted the walls around the bath and the edges of the bath. This paint attracts mould, which I can't clean off. I want to know the best method of removing the paint. The walls are a laminex type water proof lining. I have some paint remover but I don't know if it would damage this surface, or the surface of the bath. Can anyone help me? Re: Removing paint from bath and walls. 2Mar 10, 2013 5:18 pm Hi there Before I can give you any advise, are you able to tell me the age of the house, or even better, the lamipanel product that's on the wall. Also, is the bath a pressed metal unit, or moulded acrylic? The surface materials will be affected in different ways, when a caustic paint remover is applied. Let's say the bath tub is a pressed metal unit, and therefore has a baked enamel coating. I would have no problem using a paint remover suitable for acrylic paints, but you can not use it on an acrylic bath. Secondly, lamipanel has a natural releasing agent built in, and the paint should be easy to remove, unless a specific etch primer was used to begin with. In either case, once you have removed the paint, the panel would have to be coated again, as the glaze would have been removed. You may need to replace the sheeting. Alternatively, to gain a little more time, have you considered treating the area with an antibacterial solution (ie; antifungal) and then apply a laminate primer, and then a laminate topcoat. These products are available at bunnings. I hope this helps. Lamipanel always did look cheap and nasty in my book. Stewie Bathroom renovation will likely include a back-to-corner bath and we’re considering a freestanding tap with hand-held shower such as the picture included.
