Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Jan 17, 2013 12:14 pm Hi there, Just wondering if anyone knows any products on the market to fix glass cancer on a shower door? We're in a rental while building at the moment and I've tried everything to try and get this door looking clean but no luck. Also does anyone know where I can get my hands on these cheaply? Cheapest quote I've had so far is $418 each.. http://www.bathroomwarehouse.com.au/tap ... mixer.html TIA Re: Two questions.... 2Jan 18, 2013 7:55 am I googled it a while back as my glass has strange smoky-looking discolourations around the base of the frame that won't clean out no matter what and mostly what came up was oil of different sorts to fill in the pits in the glass. Goanna oil or sweet almond oil seem to be the most popular. Haven't tried it myself yet. http://www.sunshinecoastdaily.com.au/ne ... ut/877573/ Re: Two questions.... 3Jan 18, 2013 10:05 am dont know about the mixer tap, you could try sugar soap or washing up liquid straight and a scrubbing brush. both have de greasers/fat in them to break down the fat build up on the glass. have you tried them? a micro cloth will also help. Re: Two questions.... 4Jan 18, 2013 11:10 am I've tried a ton of things to try and clean it - CLR, vinegar and baking soda, sugar soap, scalex, dish washing detergent and even car cut and polish - still it has that smokey look I use enyo gloves too. I've read oil too, it makes it look a little better but not perfect but that's using olive oil...couldn't find almond oil. Re: Two questions.... 7Jan 22, 2013 7:54 am I too would have said Vinegar or Sugar soap, but if you've already tried both of those then I'd be heading for the third option: Professional cleaner. Re: Two questions.... 8Jan 22, 2013 7:56 am Have you tried jif? I used that on our shower screen and it came up amazing. You need a bit of elbow grease though so perhaps go one better and try gumption. It cleans off everything! Re: Two questions.... 9Jan 22, 2013 8:53 am Just a thought, I just had to use a glass restorer on my car headlights to pass rego. They were cloudy and yellowing. $30 from the auto shop you get a kit to repair them. Comes with some wet and dry paper, and some light chemicals. They came up like new. Wonder if it would work, there would be enough in a pack to do a door, good for eight headlights they say but I hardly used any to do the two, it goes along way. Re: Two questions.... 10Jan 22, 2013 10:31 am Depending on the quality of the scean it may never get back to new. The cheaper one get pitted by the minerals in the water and the soap, you'll get it reasonably clean but it always is a bit cloudy, particularly in the bottom half. My first house had a cheap shower screen put in, looked amazing when we moved in but within months it had started to get cloudy. It didn't matter how hard I tried to clean it. Often they also look a bit like glass but are actually acrylic. The best thing to do it clean it with the enyo after every time it is used. Re: Two questions.... 13Jan 23, 2013 2:27 pm Sorry I probably wasn't clear. What I mean is there are screens that look a lot like glass and arent, or that was my understanding. I could be wrong. All I know is the one put in during a Reno in the first place I lived (it was put in before i lived there) was a cheap one, not sure it was actually glass, and it didn't matter how well I cleaned it or with what it had 'pitted' in the bottom half. The part of the screen close to the top was fine. So all i can assume is it was caused but the water/soap ober time. If I cleaned it regularly it didn't get much worse but if I left it for any extended period it would get worse.
