Hello,
I seem to have developed a slight blockage to my sewer. It is not yet a critical problem since it only occurs when there is a lot of water going into the sewer over a short time period, but it is definitely becoming an issue.
I have been reading about the various ways sewers are cleaned using electric eels etc, but my problem is that I can’t see any way to access the sewer pipe.
Outside the kitchen and also outside the bathroom there are 100mm (estimate) clay pipes that protrude out of the ground several inches and they have water visible in them. When the sewerage system backs up, the level within these pipes visibly rises before gradually dropping again. Are these the kind of access points that are used for electric eels? I thought that they would be S-Bends to trap odours and that they would therefore be useless for accessing the sewer. Am I wrong?
Our entire backyard is covered with concrete so digging down to the pipe is no small matter. I have been considering installing my own access point to the sewer to enable cleaning (assuming I am correct that there is no other suitable access point). If I do this, would it be a matter of adding a T junction to the existing pipe? What kind of access is standard in a sewer to enable unblocking? Can eels go around 90 degree bends?
I think tree roots are responsible, so I am looking for a way I can easily de-root the pipe every year or so without having to call a plumber. Chemicals have been uneffective.
