Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Dec 30, 2012 6:54 pm Hi all, Just after a bit of advice or anyone's experiences with anything similar. We currently own a 3 bedroom country cottage. It's very small and the bathroom is *tiny*. We're planning to extend in the future and add on another bedroom, but for now we're keen to have a bigger bathroom, one we could actually fit a bath in! (The current bathroom has a 900x900 shower, small vanity and enough room to open and close the door - just). We've decided the easiest way to do this would be to convert the current second bedroom into a whole new bathroom, as it is along the same side of the house as all the current plumbing, and has an external wall. The room is 3200 x 3000mm, with a built in wardrobe. It used to have carpet, which we have pulled up to find pine floorboards. They seem to be in reasonably sound condition, however they don't look too flash aesthetically and are completely untreated. Other things to note I guess are that the house is on timber stumps, and that the walls are asbestos sheeting. We assume this means we'll have to have a licensed tradesperson come in to do any cutting out of holes in the walls, etc. Basically if anyone has any experience with installing all new plumbing/wet area in a room with none, could they let me know, or even point me to an old thread or something. Cheers! -Jen and Dave. Re: Bedroom to Bathroom Conversion 2Jan 08, 2013 12:05 pm You'll need to get a plumber a d a gyprocker. The bedroom will need to be totally stripped, plumbing installed and resheeted. This is not because of the asbestos but because gyprock is not suitable for bathrooms. Then you need a waterproofer, tiler. Quite a big job but not out of the question. The fact that you're on stumps actually makes it so much easier as the plumber can get under to access sewer etc. From the information posted it looks to me your rumpus room is nothing more than extended garage. That will present a number of challenges. Single brick wall between… 2 7766 Hi, Apologies - I know there is plenty out there on this but struggling to put together the puzzle.
