Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Dec 04, 2012 8:30 pm I tried a search on here, but couldn't come up with anything specific to what I wanted. So.. I'm from the US now living in Qld, and its been a few years since I did a shower pan. The way we do it in the states is to use a rubber membrane down on doubled plywood subfloor then float out a dry concrete base. I saw on a new construction project in Qld they were using a paint on membrane and I dont know if they were going to do a concrete base on that. As with all construction, from some of the finished tiled shower floors Ive seen, it looks like there is more than one way to skin this cat. I'd never seen drains in the middle of bathrooms other than in Asia until I came here. So is there a standard method that most guys here use? Re: Shower pans 2Dec 05, 2012 5:19 pm If its a downstairs bathroom then it is usually a paint on waterproof membrane ontop of a concreat slab. Then the tile bed is put on top of the membrane. Upstairs bathroom are usually waterproof cement board/sheeting then the water proof membrane then the tile bed.
