Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Nov 24, 2012 2:09 pm Hoping someone can help me with this. I like this vanity for our bathroom in a house we are renovating: http://www.reece.com.au/bathrooms/produ ... anity-unit (Mizu Soothe 800mm wall hung vanity with 2 drawers). What we like about it is the narrow profile and rounded corners as the bathroom is quite tight and this would be one less corner to bump into. BUT we don't like the basin - it's all basin, and we'd like a bit of bench top! However, you can buy the cabinet and top separately. So I was thinking we could just get the cabinet and get a stone top and under mount bowl made for it. The difficulty is that the present basin is very shallow (120mm), and it is hard to find a basin that shallow (and you need a shallow basin as there is only so much clearance to the drawers). So I thought a solution might be to use stone to build up the height of the top (in the same way that 20mm stone sheets are given an extra layer at the edge of a counter to make them look 40mm thick - only this time the extra layer would be used to raise the height, not just glued on the side.). I've spoken to one bathroom cabinet guy who just said "impossible". But I don't think it is. And I don't take no for an answer. And I don't like top mounted bowls, although I know this would be the solution to all our problems. If anyone has a solution, or has seen another cabinet with rounded edges, please let me know! Thanks in anticipation! Bronwyn Re: Can I have a stone benchtop made for a manufactured vani 2Nov 24, 2012 2:42 pm It can be done easily. Just contact a stone mason directly. Thanks in anticipation! Bronwyn Let me get this right. Your core issue is depth, you say you cannot get anything shallow enough to fit. Then you talk about using stone in layers to get extra depth, but you are using an under mount sink. Simple fact is this won't help because doing as you suggest the basin will still be at the same height. What you really need is to use the thicker stone but using the method you called "gluing a bit to the side". This will then allow the basin to be 20mm higher thus giving 20mm more depth to play with. So the question is can you get a nice basin that is 140mm deep? BTW the 'glue to the side' method is or can be done in a way that it will sit even. They will do it all around the edges leaving the middle free for the basin. So don't worry too much. As mentioned your issue is finding a basin, then finding a mason to make it all fit. Re: Can I have a stone benchtop made for a manufactured vani 4Dec 01, 2012 12:13 am Thanks AJW. I have had a chat to a stone mason who confirms it is possible - but now to find the shallow sink. Must be round or oval and less than 350mm wide! Let me know if anything comes to mind. Re: Can I have a stone benchtop made for a manufactured vani 5Dec 03, 2012 6:44 am bathsheba52 Thanks AJW. There are quite a few bowls 350mm wide in oval or round. Not sure on the depth though. If you want a slighly deeper bowl then there is no reason why the back of the drawer couldnt be cut down in hight slightly. The front and the sides of the drawer could stay the same height its only the back that would need to be changed.
