Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Apr 01, 2008 10:04 am Hi all,
Handover of my new house was about 3 months ago and last Friday I had my 3 month inspection. My wet areas are tiled with polished porcelain 400 x 400mm. This includes my shower bases, which the tiler labelled where each tile is to go. At handover, my supervisor told me at the 3 month inspection stage they will clean the markings off. Just after handover I tried to clean the writing off using: meth spirits, turps, a school grade eraser, alcohol, various wipes and sponges, nail polish remover goo remover all to no affect. The poor maintenance guy was scrubbing the tiles for about an hour, the writing/markings don't seem to go. Just wondering if anyone knows how to lift/remove the markings from my tiles? I understand that I need to seal these tiles before using hence I have avoided using my showers until I seal the tiles. Thanks all for your help. Polished porcelains are not a great choice in wet areas, as they are extremely slippery when wet. Tiler should not have marked the tiles. It is his responsibility (and builders) to rectify. The marks show that the tiles are somewhat porous, as I have often pointed out before. It may be that the marks won't come out. Take photos, and write a letter to the builders, stating the details of the problem. Ash. I don't think you have, but you should allow THEM to sort it out, as they are responsible. If you took to it with steelo or any other abrasive and cause DAMAGE, then you are responsible. Ash. Re: Tile Cleaning 6Apr 03, 2008 3:01 pm My house is in Caroline Springs.
I agree that polished porcelain tiles are porous and they need to be sealed before use to avoid any further staining. My builder sent someone this morning to try and rid the tiles of the marks. He tried about three liquid cleaners, none of them worked. Then he asked for a piece of tile so he could take it with him and try other products. I tried to clean it off myself because Ive listened to all the excuses that my building supervisor tells me. One person blames the other and still I am waiting for results. If I had wiped the marks off just after the tiler finished, I wouldn't have this problem, because it's obviously too hard for him to! Re: Tile Cleaning 7Apr 03, 2008 3:11 pm The only way that it might come out is with poultice and a solvent like metho.
http://www.aquamix.com.au/products/poultice.php There are specific procedures whereby poultice can remove many stains. Sometimes it takes 2 or 3 goes to get as much out as possible. Did anyone let you know when polished porcelains were specified, that they will be slippery? Ash. Re: Tile Cleaning 8Apr 08, 2008 2:24 pm Hi Ash
Thanks for your advice, Ill have to give poultice a go if the maintenance crew can't remove the marks. I wasn't aware that polished porcelains will be extremely slippery in the wet areas, might have to put a rubber mat or something beside the shower. Builder said that he was looking at having no cornices up the top in the laundry. Hence the question: will it look 'ugly'? 0 2940 ![]() We have a new build and need to clean bricks around a newly constructed deck.
