Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Sep 26, 2012 10:14 am We have recently had stegbar install mirrors into our bathrooms and splashback into the kitchen. Unfortunately the splash back was cut incorrectly around the power points. ( the guy doing the measuring blamed the sparky saying the power points are always installed prior to splash back installation - wtf??) Anyway, today they arrive to install the recut splash back but wont install until they have a cheque. So now we have an issue, I'm at work and I control the money. I will not pay until I have inspected and am happy with the job. The issue we are having is that there is a 6-8mm gap between the tiles and the mirrors and Stegbar says it is their policy not to silicone around the mirror as moisture will get trapped. Well, without the silicone moisture will get in there anyway. I have asked them to fax me a copy of their policy - I'm sure I'll be waiting for it. I have attached pictures of the mirrors and the gaps. Does anyone hear have flush mount mirrors and are they siliconed? Its totally wrong! But is it there job? Was it in there contract to silicone around them to the tiles or were they just contracted to fit the mirrors? However to mention that it's their policy not to silicone is a cop out. I'm still waiting for their policy document. Re: bathroom mirrors - to silicone or not 5Sep 26, 2012 12:34 pm I know some glass suppliers wont silicon to tiles or to kitchen panels. They dont want the responsibility of damaging other peoples products. I also believe they dont want to do it becuase its a messy job that takes a bit of skill to do properly. The two tilers I use for bathrooms wont silicon between the wall and floor tiles. They ask the owner or plumber to do it. Alot of people dont like silicon so try and get out of doing it. Furthermore, their bully boy tactics of removing a shower cubicle door because they did not receive payment then and there leaves a lot to be desired, especially after I called them to tell them I will pay once I have inspected the install after work tonight. As a person who does repeat builds - stegbar - never again! The first attempt the GPO openings way above where the GPO's actually were. The splash back under the island bench has not been glued correctly and you can get your hand under the right side of it. Re: bathroom mirrors - to silicone or not 9Sep 27, 2012 9:04 pm Power points have about 5 mm play up and down. By placing the left one lowish and the right one highish they should lineup. Demolition August 2009, Construction Started September 2009, Completed December 2010 Re: bathroom mirrors - to silicone or not 10Sep 28, 2012 7:25 pm we are using the clipsal Saturn 250V and we are still getting a stepped appearance of 2mm between the adjacent power points. I met with Stegbars installation manager this morning and he had his man play with the power point as well and could not get the power points to line up. Their measuring bloke ( I was on site on the 2 occasions he measured up) said he just measured to the clips. My disappointment was that he never mentioned to me that there would be a discrepancy in height of the glass cut outs. Should he have done so I would have had the clips moved. I can still place C-clips to hold the power outlets or I can take to the screw hole opening with a dremel to allow more freedom in vertical movement. With regards to the removal of the shower screen doors because of non payment at the time of install. The legal advice I received was that it was illegal to do so and criminal proceedings could have taken place. Stegbar apologised for this. However I am still disappointed at the final outcome with the attitude being - we agree with your concern that you should have been notified of the height discrepancy of adjacent cut outs. We will discuss it in our next sales meeting. Render your bathroom walls, two opinions versus the one, makes you wonder. 3 6023 Hi Geoff Install Puddle Flange prior to any screed.
