Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 May 14, 2013 12:28 pm Is there any reason I couldn't take the kitchen sink from the old house and use it as a laundry sink in the new house? It's shallower than a standard old laundry sink, but I see no need for a deep sink. We hardly do any hand washing & certainly nothing big. It has a draining board attached, which might look out of place in a laundry but I actually think it would be an asset - somewhere to put wet things, especially when hand-washing clothes. Re: kitchen sink in laundry 3May 14, 2013 12:55 pm I think it would be very odd for resale. A decent laundry tub would be quite important to anyone like me (family) for soaking clothes/rinsing clothes etc and you need it quite deep for that. We also use that tub for things that won't fit in the kitchen sink, potplants, vases etc. Surely a proper deep laundry tub isn't that expensive....? Also, what about mopping buckets. Where would you fill that up...? Laundry sinks are a specific size because of the way most people use them. A kitchen sink won't be much use to people with young children, who do a lot of soaking. It also sends an odd message, almost like there were corners cut during the build. A laundry sink is a very cheap item in the overall build so I wouldn't recommend doing this unless you have a very specific reason for it. Strange building decisions can freak out potential buyers. They start asking themselves questions, some of which might start with "what kind of person did THAT?", or "what on earth were they thinking?". Not questions you want floating around... HD Re: kitchen sink in laundry 5May 14, 2013 1:06 pm I agree re: filling up buckets and watering cans. Although if you had a longer, pivoted tap you could get away with it. But I agree if I saw that my first thought would be "why?" Re: kitchen sink in laundry 6May 14, 2013 2:00 pm My cousin and aunty have this in their laundry.
WHY - My cousin renovated their house, it was a really old house and the move the kitchen. What was the kitchen then became the laundry. They left the sink as their new kitchen has very little bench space (especially when they have their large family over). It is not unusual for them to use the laundry to do the dishes as there is more bench space in there and it is closer to the outdoor entertainment area. - My aunty has a massive kitchen that is very much the 'heart of the house', and is extremely ornate. She uses her laundry as a working kitchen, she has an oven, fridge and pantry in there along with a kitchen sink. She hates the idea of cooking smells wafting thru her house and making a mess in a public area. I know this doesn't suit everyone - just trying to point out that it is not unheard of Re: kitchen sink in laundry 7May 14, 2013 5:26 pm Lurgen This might seem odd, but I don't think I'd buy a house that had a kitchen sink in the laundry. HD +1 Will look odd (and very cheap). A new Laundry sink is like $100 Agreed. I just found out today the certifier has not given the final sign off. 2 4207 Hey all, Hoping for some inspiration for my bathroom laundry combo. The tiles are in good condition, as is the bathtub.
