Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Sep 20, 2012 11:39 am Hi there We are nearing the fit off stage for our bathroom. The situation is Our floor tile is a travertine look porcelain 300 x 300 (which I love) Our wall tile is an off white 300 x 600 layed vertically (which I am disappointed with as they seem very yellow against the white of the bath sink etc) Our ceilings are 2900 The tiles around hobless frameless shower is to 2400 (the shower is 1m x 2m so a large area) The tiles around the remainder of the bathroom is to 1800 Our problem is now with the mirror as it seems too low to have it finishing flush with the 1800 tiles. Should we (a) just install a mirror to run the length of the vanity which would be very long and skinny 1800 x 600 (b) install more of the same tiles but cut in half to 300 x 300 which would then bring them to 2100, this would finish flush with the door frame and then enclose the window in tiles and allow a decent sized mirror to be installed 1800 x 900 As a side note if anyone else has installed off white wall tiles I would love some photos as I am now devastated that I didn't just use white tiles. I'm hoping it will all come together once it is all painted and fitted off. Are you able to provide a photo of that wall? I think you will find it'll all come together once the paint, shower screen, taps etc go in. I personally prefer the off white in comparison to stark white, it gives it more warmth Kayla Re: Tiled to 1800 seems like a mistake...now what to do 5Sep 21, 2012 7:24 am judydg Why not add another full tile and make it all 2400. My thoughts exactly! Would this look like we just should have gone floor to ceiling? Will that look strange? By just adding another half tile the tiles will finish flush with the top of the door frame giving a nice line around the room where it then steps up for the shower? I have some updated photos, your thoughts and suggestions are really appreciated Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Tiled to 1800 seems like a mistake...now what to do 7Sep 21, 2012 10:30 am I think you do need to add another tile all the way around. It won't look funny only having a small area of paint. My parents actually have just a small strip left untiled around their bathroom (probably about 30cm) and you don't even notice it. Although the paint colour does basically match the tiles so it all blends nicely. Kayla Re: Tiled to 1800 seems like a mistake...now what to do 8Sep 21, 2012 11:41 am A friend of mine faced this a while back and to make it more of a statement added one more tile to the height then a small feature tile on top of that - not really a capping tile but you get the drift. Once painted and all the accessories in and towels on the rails as has been already stated, you won't even notice. I think we might add one more full tile to bring all the tiles including the shower to 2400 then have one strip of paint around. The cornicing has already been done so tiling to the ceiling would be difficult. Edited to let you know builder says no problems going to the ceiling so this is what we will do. I will attach photos when this is done. Thanks again to all who have helped! Re: Tiled to 1800 seems like a mistake...now what to do 14Oct 17, 2012 4:13 pm Oh awesome. Looks great. And I love your showerscreens. Is the color in the photo the way it actually looks in reality?? They look very tropical. The bathroom is for three children so we chose frosted for privacy. It is actually lovely showering in there it feels really private. I'll look into different shower heads and ask the plumber about some engineering and see what he says. Thanks 2 9535 Unless there were unforeseeable issues with the site, I dont think you should have to pay for contractors errors or poor planning. I'd probably try and be reasonable and… 5 4496 |
