Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Sep 19, 2012 1:36 pm I am planning on tiling out entire ensuite (floors and walls up to ceiling) in this tile. Will it be too dark to do floors and walls same tile? http://i466.photobucket.com/albums/rr25/MissAyla27/187014_1_1.png This is the bathroom layout: http://i466.photobucket.com/albums/rr25/MissAyla27/Ensuite.jpg Building the Autern 005 with urbanedge Homes Re: **Pls help me decide!** Tiling in master ensuite... 2Sep 19, 2012 4:22 pm Would it make it feel too dark & closed in Is there any natural light, big windows or such. And your ensuite layout is great, it will be a stunning room! Personally, I love dark tiles and think it would look great having the walls and floors tiled in this. If you are worried about it being a bit much though, have you thought about breaking it up with a different maybe lighter feature tile? You could do this in horizontal or vertical strips in the shower or above the vanity. I'm not sure if this is something you have already thought about or not, but could look stunning. We did a similar coloured tile on the back wall of our ensuite shower with a beautiful mosaic feature tile in the niche and it looks beautiful Kayla Re: **Pls help me decide!** Tiling in master ensuite... 6Sep 20, 2012 9:24 pm kjw7 I love the tiles you've chosen, it's gorgeous! I was going to have a light feature tile in the niche but wasn't sure if it would look odd. I am considering a lighter tile running along the floor all the way up the shower wall, just one row. Building the Autern 005 with urbanedge Homes Re: **Pls help me decide!** Tiling in master ensuite... 7Sep 20, 2012 9:34 pm I don't think it would even need to be a lighter tile necessarily, maybe just something a little different to break it up a little. Here's an older photo of my ensuite: http://i1071.photobucket.com/albums/u509/kjw7/4EBD6854-2863-4EAD-8EE6-88E06595141A-4467-000008E5CC25AD36.jpg And our main bathroom: http://i1071.photobucket.com/albums/u509/kjw7/62EA9FD6-001E-466F-AB4C-ED40414A5691-1484-000002BD98C3E799.jpg You can see more latest pics on my thread, just click on the link below my name We used the charcoal tile on one wall of both showers, as well as on the floors and around the bathhob. We combined this with he lightr creamy tiles and the mosaics to break things up a little. But I have seen plenty of pics of bathrooms done fully in dark tiles and they look gorgeous! Have you tried looking on Houzz.com for inspiration? Just search for 'black bathrooms' - there's some great ones on there. If it feels right then it probably is! Building the Autern 005 with urbanedge Homes Re: **Pls help me decide!** Tiling in master ensuite... 11Sep 20, 2012 10:51 pm Oh trust me I know how you feel! We're only just coming to the end of our build now and I stressed about our choices for aaaages! But I stuck with my original choices and am extremely happy with how they turned out. I think people are really surprised when they ask what colours we've chosen and then see that it all looks really good together, because ours are a lot darker than most. Kayla Re: **Pls help me decide!** Tiling in master ensuite... 12Sep 21, 2012 7:26 am I think if you do all the walls and floor it might feel very dark. I used a very similar tile in our ensuite. I put them on the floor and one wall at the end as a feature. I then used 300x600 on the other walls. I am very happy with how it turned out! Sounds pretty similar to what we did! Yay it's good to know other people have done the same kind've thing. Re: **Pls help me decide!** Tiling in master ensuite... 16Sep 21, 2012 10:54 am I think you can afford to go with a darker tile if you want to, as it is not enclosed like a normal ensuite/bathroom. However if it were my room I would probably make a feature of the wall behind the bath and have the rest a bit lighter (I'm a self-confessed fan of white tiles though). My tile selections are on my thread (on page 7) if you want to have a stickybeak). I would also ask you to consider the colour scheme of your main bedroom when deciding. As it is so open you want to make sure the colours tone in together. When it's all said and done, it needs to be something you are comfortable with, and if that is the look you want to go for, sometimes you have to take the plunge. I can't think how many times I have seen a bathroom and thought 'I didn't think that tile/combination would work - but WOW'. I do think you could afford to move the bath/vanity area just a little further up though, just to give you some more space at the vanity (which is where you will spend most of your time). Yes we were so lucky our designer is one of a kind and didn't charge us a cent! We will definitely make lots of room between bath/vanity and the shower. That was just my own playing around. I just had a look on your thread, and the carpet we are choosing looks almost exactly the same colour as yours. Do you think it will be awful to have that colour carpet leading up to the dark tile in the ensuite? I'm also a HUGE fan of white but i'm so afraid to use it in the bathroom because of the clean factor. I can't stand seeing marks on grout. I'm torn between putting white tiles on the floor and then the back of the bath wall as the charcoal tile and also the back wall where shower will be. Or just keeping it all charcoal tiles everywhere or doing charcoal tiles on the floor and white on the walls? Decisions decision are torturing me! I have white tiles on the walls where I live now and honestly don't have any problems with cleaning them. We will be having rectified tiles in the ensuite to reduce the amount of grout though It's all personal choice, but I think as a floor tile that grey will look good against the grey carpet.
