Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Sep 03, 2012 6:45 pm Hi I plan to re tile my bathroom walls because the tiles are falling off but the wall is in good nick...but I'm concerned about chipping off the old tiles myself with asbestos walls. Just wondering if anyone else has done what I'm planning to do with asbestos walls if it's ok to do so?? Re: tiling bathroom 3Sep 03, 2012 10:42 pm Just had a plumber come over today he said it was asbestos walls..my house was built in the 1950s ...what do I have to do to get it tested ? Apparently the bottom half of my walls where my tiles sit on is asbestos and the top half of the wall is just some sort of plaster boad .. Re: tiling bathroom 4Sep 03, 2012 11:08 pm If your house was built in the 50's then yes it's probably asbestos cement sheet, you can buy a test kit from most hardware stores, just follow the instructions and send it off, I'm not sure how long it takes to get a result. Re: tiling bathroom 5Sep 03, 2012 11:35 pm Thanks for your reply Paul. If it end up been asbestos I might have to get the pros in to have all the walls and ceiling removed may cost a couple grand more to my budget but my life is worth more then a couple grand incase I get lung cancer....is it best to have villaboards put in the bathroom ? Good idea, it's just not worth the risk, I have heard of people installing villaboard over the top of asbestos sheeting but I think that's a bad idea, best to spend a bit of money and have it all taken out professionally. Villaboard is the go for any wet area. Re: tiling bathroom 7Sep 04, 2012 5:37 pm I got quoted 950 to remove 30m2 asbestos walls and ceiling I'll sheet it up my self and get the pros to water proof it...is superceil the go for the ceiling in the bathroom ? Or is there something better on the market ? Or is there something better on the market ? Depends on your ceiling joists, if they are around 450 centres then just use std plaster, if they are more than 450 then use SC Looking to tile the facade pillars rather than rendering. Builder is quoting 2500$ laying cost for upto 10msq. The 2 pillars come to be 16msq. So laying costs are 5000$… 0 7546 Hi, I'm clearing the tiles from our horrid 50 year old bathroom and preparing to lay new ones. Bugger of a job getting the old… 0 8088 4 14463 |
