Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Aug 02, 2012 5:31 pm Currently doing up my laundry, plans are - re-tile with and repaint in more modern colours - home made polished concrete bench - Ikea cupboards with overhead storage space - taking into account new dryer (currently on the boat from the UK) - new rear door to let in more light anyway, tiles are up and i'm wondering if the surface under them is screed or the cement slab, seems to be soft and crumbly in places and rock hard in others. I'm thinking it is screed and was planning on attacking the remaining tile glue with the grinder to clean it up then vacuum etc and put down a selfleveling compound of some sort before replacing a sheet of villaboard, waterproofing and finally re-tiling before installing the cupboards. House is late 80's/early 90's model, brick vernear on 2 level full concrete slab, centre drain in the laundry. so questions are: is that screed or concrete slab? best prep for tiling? have I got it right to self level, waterproof then tile? best self levelling product to use? what surface prep prior to self levelling? What waterproofing would this house have previously in the laundry back in the day when it was built? pics are here http://imageshack.us/g/232/image1vtn.jpg/ thanks Re: Laundry Reno questions 2Aug 03, 2012 5:12 pm It sounds like screed to me. I personally dont like the self level products. My tilers always use a screed no matter what. A screed allows you to get the propper falls and are far easier to work with. Just my 2cents though.
