Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Jul 17, 2012 10:02 am Hi guys Love your work here on the forum and a regular lurker. I would love some assistance on a bathroom renovation. The dimensions of the bathroom are 2.6m x 1.5m. I have attached four attempts that I have made to try and get everything to fit. Please let me know your thoughts or even which one you prefer (if any). Hope its legible. Just a bit of background that might help. The bath is in the same position in each option as there is a large timber sash window above it. Having a shower is not advisable and we would prefer to have a separate shower area. We have thought about taking out the window and replacing with a narrow window much higher in the wall but we have cladding on the outside of the house so its a real pain. The bath will be 1500m x 700mm Vanity will preferably be a 600mm wall hung vanity Toilet can be a wall hung or floor mounted with in-wall cistern if needed (but prefer to go with a standard toilet) The Shower area will be a frameless screen with drainage through the floor. Some options allow 750mm and some 800mm. The door is on the bottom left and its a sliding door (internally in the room). Can move the door to the outside to free up some more space. What do you guys think? Do any of those options in the attachment work? Any suggestions would be most welcome. Thanks guys - I'm not very good at this and its all new but I've tried to do my research on this the best I could. thanks (hope the links work ok) Tim Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Ideas please on a Small Bathroom (pics inc) 2Jul 17, 2012 10:09 am Apologies if its come out a bit too light. just so you know - I'm kinda leaning towards the last one. I can decrease the gap between the vanity and the bath from 100mm to 50mm (it being wall hung will help with cleaning in the gaps). That basically means the toilet overlapping the vanity decreases from 120mm to 70mm. Also is 470mm enough of a gap to open a vanity door or drawer? (I'll leave you all to have a look and look forward to telling me they all won't work) Re: Ideas please on a Small Bathroom (pics inc) 3Jul 17, 2012 4:59 pm I agree that the last one is best. I would not like to have a toilet right next to the bath. This is not a professional opinion though - just personal pref. Re: Ideas please on a Small Bathroom (pics inc) 4Jul 17, 2012 5:19 pm SmithiesWife I agree that the last one is best. I would not like to have a toilet right next to the bath. This is not a professional opinion though - just personal pref. Thats what my partner said as well. I've never really thought of that to be honest. We are not going to use the bath as it will only be there for resale. Did you find there was enough space generally or is it all too busy? The only other option is to go shower over bath. Thanks for your input Re: Ideas please on a Small Bathroom (pics inc) 5Jul 17, 2012 5:21 pm I live in an apartment at the moment and having the toilet next to the bath isnt a bad thing. Someone can sit there and have a chat, and its not a bad place to plonk your towel - the plug hole is on the same wall as the loo). It is the same theory for a loo next to a shower, which is the case our ensuite. All of our loos are next to the vanity (on the same wall) and the toilet roll holder is mounted to the side of the vanity. Can you fit everything on the same wall so it goes shower, toilet, vanity, bath? That will give you a nice long corridor so you have plenty of space to wield a towel. I suggested the vanity between the toilet and the bath so that it makes cleaning easier, and you can plonk your towel, drink, etc on the vanity while you are in the bath. Edit, I dont know if these photos help you visualise things Bathroom: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Ensuite: (Sorry best photo I have) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Ideas please on a Small Bathroom (pics inc) 6Jul 17, 2012 5:34 pm alt0160 Can you fit everything on the same wall so it goes shower, toilet, vanity, bath? Edit, I dont know if these photos help you visualise things Thanks for that. Yes - ideally that is the way I would like it but if the room is 2600 in length then really I would have to drop down to a 500mm vanity bath 700mm shower 750mm Vanity 500mm Toilet 670mm (including space on each side) Total 2620 Cant really see how I can do it. Re: Ideas please on a Small Bathroom (pics inc) 7Jul 17, 2012 6:04 pm ouch 500 for a vanity, I see the problem. I thought given the first picture that there might have been space if you could butt the vanity and bath up next to eachother and the space either side of the loo would let you clean the outside of the shower screen and the side of the vanity... bugger. I think you have all the options covered unless you want to do something like this bathroom from the block: http://homes.ninemsn.com.au/theblock/ga ... .slideshow Re: Ideas please on a Small Bathroom (pics inc) 8Jul 17, 2012 6:17 pm Have considered the whole wet room idea too and just cant make it work. Looks like it could be shower over bath for me. At least I can get a 750mm vanity then and a lot more room space. Re: Ideas please on a Small Bathroom (pics inc) 9Jul 19, 2012 7:54 pm mouseman, I've edited your links so your pictures show in the post instead of just links. A lot of people won't bother clicking through from a link, so this way you might get more input. Re: Ideas please on a Small Bathroom (pics inc) 10Jul 19, 2012 8:32 pm Where's the door located? I know you don't want the shower over the window, but have you thought about a combined bath and shower? No need for a curtain, just a 750 mm deep glass panel over one end of the bath. Also, 500 mm for vanity is very narrow. With a combined bath and shower there would be plenty of room for a larger vanity and toilet, both along the same wall. I have a bathroom guy coming tomorrow morning to go through the options. I'll bring both scenarios to the table and see what he says. I'll let you know what happens Re: Ideas please on a Small Bathroom (pics inc) 12Aug 05, 2012 12:35 am Many homes now do not have barhs. If it is an impressive area it will add value, even without a bath. Baths are for children , children then grow and they become un used space wasters. I always prefer to build larger showers and scrap the whole bath thing. Practicality and wow factor add value. Which would you rather if you were the purchaser? Re: Ideas please on a Small Bathroom (pics inc) 13Aug 11, 2012 3:01 pm hey guys, This might be a long shot but can any recommend a good plumber/bathroom renovator in the Melbourne area (Coburg area). I've called a few already and not having much luck in getting someone to even give me a quote. The only quote I got was for $9,000 and that doesnt even include the products. Its not that big of a job. PM me if you know anyone - appreciate it. Thank you Re: Ideas please on a Small Bathroom (pics inc) 15Aug 20, 2012 12:14 pm MattC123 Many homes now do not have barhs. I don't agree, I am an adult and I love my baths. I would never buy a home without one. Just my two cents All 3 items listed are defects and are of concern. Can anyone recommend a smallish builder to go with?
