Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Jul 09, 2012 12:16 am Hi all - I had actually posted this question in the General Discussion forum, but then occurred to me later that perhaps it might be more relevant in the Bathrooms forum, and might get some more feedback. So I'm posting it here again, hope the mods don't mind. So basically I'm trying to finalise the layout of our powder room. Because of the compact size of the room, we already know that we would like a wall-hung toilet with an in-wall cistern. eg. the Caroma Cube pan (http://www.caroma.com.au/bathrooms/toilet-suites/cube/cube-wall-hung-invisi-series-ii-suite) with the Caroma Invisi Series II cistern (http://www.caroma.com.au/bathrooms/toilet-cisterns/invisi-series-ii-cistern/invisi-series-ii-cistern). But our preferred layout option has the toilet up against the wall that adjoins the home theatre room - ie the cistern would be located in that wall. (Would be a standard 90mm timber stud wall with plasterboard.) So my worry is that you can easily hear the toilet flushing from the adjacent home theatre room. Does anyone have any opinions on this? In particular: 1. Would the in-wall cisterns increase the audible flushing noise in the adjacent room when compared to conventional toilet suites? 2. Would acoustic plasterboard (eg. Gyprock Soundchek) and/or acoustic insulation help? Obviously the insulation can't be installed where the cistern is, but it can be installed around it. Personally I doubt that the insulation would be effective if used in this manner, but then again I'm no expert. Any thoughts/opinions from anyone here? Would greatly appreciate any information. Thanks for the reply builderforlife. To clarify what you said though: - by "wall hung cisterns", do you mean conventional toilet suites? Or something else? - when you say "In wall are no louder than wall hung cisterns", do you mean to say that the flushing noise in the adjacent room won't be any more audible for an in-wall cistern when compared to a conventional toilet? Thanks again for the info... just want to make sure I've understood you correctly. He provided a link above to exactly what he was talking about in the top pose, specifically where the cistern is mounted inside the wall cavity and the comparison was compared to a conventional toilet where the cistern is hung on the outside of the wall. Must admit am surprised to see the post above that the noise is no more, would have thought with just a single 10mm bit of gyproc separating the cistern from the room the noise would have been slightly more. But gather these cisterns must have quieter water valves or something else to keep the noise down. Re: In-wall cisterns - noisier for adjacent room? 5Jul 10, 2012 9:00 am No , they are equally as noisy from my experience but with a wall hung you get to put soundcheck on one side , acoustic batts in the wall and soundcheck on the other making the noise a lot less. In wall cisterns using standard 90mm stud walls and you can only put soundcheck on one side. Stewie We are building a second dwelling and are currently selecting window and door frames.
