Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Jun 11, 2012 11:58 am Hi all, in our ensuite we have gone with no shower screen, as the shower screen they wanted to put in meant there would not be enough room for my shower chair (and I thought it would be easier to get this installed when we can see how things are exactly. I was wondering, does anyone have experience with any of this stuff re disabled building? My uncle is a builder and told me basically that given my age, I know what works and doesn't work better than someone who doesn't know me does, but i'm not so sure. Should we put a shower screen in , or something else? We are getting the floor sloped so the water drains into the plug hole rather than spills out everywhere else. Trying to work out what the best thing is to do, would like it to be in before we move in so I can have a shower. Cheers, Ainslee Re: shower screen to be installed after handover 2Jun 11, 2012 12:14 pm Personally i would install it afterwards so you can see what is what and how things work. Prior to handover you should be able to turn the water on and see how it flows. You should also be able to get someone in to do a measure and quote and install just after handover (if not the same day). Our builder told us that we can get people to come in to measure up for things like curtains (that we will be installing after handover), splash backs etc when the tiler is there, because the place will be open and we dont have to take time off work (which is really great of them imo). Maybe your builder will let you do the same? IMO follow your instincts. Re: shower screen to be installed after handover 3Jun 11, 2012 5:50 pm It depends on what you want. If you stay with standard sizes shower screens can be very cheap. If you get someone in to measure and install it will cost alot. Try this company http://auswidesupplies.com.au/ I purchased all my shower screens from them and they were less than 1/4 of the price! All glass sold in Australia comes from China dont let anyone tell you any different. I have just finished fitting my shower screens in my house. I did it after handover to save money. I installed 12x12mm aluminium chanel on the walls before tiling which allowed the glass to slide into it after. That way you dont see any ugly brackets! I personally like walk in showers with out any doors. Great from everyone including shower chairs and wheel chairs. My frameless screen is 1100x2000 with the shower head(200x200) facing straigh down. It works so well!!! The shower in the ensuite is positioned in the right hand corner as you just enter the ensuite (not the far right hand corner). The sink is just opposite the door to the ensuite, and considering how close the shower is to the door (which doesn't actually have a door - we couldn't get one put in as it would have shrunk the size of the frame and the shower chair wouldn't be able to get through), I am worried about dampness getting into the walk in robe immediately outside. Just unsure at this stage if getting a shower screen put where I am envisaging it, would be an issue with me trying to get the shower chair around it. Decisions, decisions! That seems a lot to me. Can you tell me how much your cost and did you have to do a special order for it as I can't see anything on their website on single glass panels. 2/2010 8 acres purchased 11/2011 plans submitted 3/2012 plans approved 13/4 slab done 16/5 brickwork and roof finished 4/6 lock up 29/6 kitchen and bathrooms in 30/6 currently painting Re: shower screen to be installed after handover 6Jun 15, 2012 6:27 pm Ren123 Hi there, Just checked out the website you mentioned above for shower screens as I have just received a quote for our main bathroom to upgrade from the builders standard framed shower to a contour shower ( wanted the fully frameless but was to pricey) is $419 and for our ensuite a glass panel 2000 x 900 is an extra $484. For some reason they dont list the flat panels. I paid $200 for a 1000x2000 piece of 10mm glass. It also came with brackets that I didnt bother using. No special order. They have it all in stock ready to go. The deliver aswell. Very, very easy to fit aswell.
