Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Mar 13, 2008 10:00 am My toilet has been working fine (as you well expect them to) and last night the cistern kept running after a flush (albeit very slowly). It now flows so slowly that it takes an hour or more for the cistern to fill up before it can be flushed again. I have had a look and can't see any reason for this.
I need to know if this is the end for the loo (is quite old and ugly anyway) or whether there may be a simple fix? I have attached a couple of photos of the cistern for reference. Please help... Help!! 2Mar 13, 2008 10:06 am Hey Mike, sounds like you need a new float mechanism.
You can pick them up at Bunnings and install yourself. Good Luck! ![]() ![]() Re: Toilet Cistern - Suddenly stopped working.. Help!! 3Mar 13, 2008 10:12 am Turn the water off. Put towels on the floor, push the toilet button and empty the tank.
Undo the pipe from the tap to the cistern, at the cistern end. With any luck there is a filter (plastic or wire mesh) in there that may be clogged. If not, undo the other end, same thing, check for a filter being clogged. Clean, re-install. Hopefully that is your problem. Re: Toilet Cistern - Suddenly stopped working.. Help!! 4Mar 13, 2008 12:33 pm Go to Bunnigs and buy a double flush, cheap plastic cistern. You'll save yourself hassle and quite a lot of water in the same time. Help!! 6Mar 13, 2008 1:29 pm Before you do that have you simply tried manually lifting the float arm up and down ? Can you get it to refill at the normal rate by pulling the arm up ? Re: Toilet Cistern - Suddenly stopped working.. Help!! 8Mar 13, 2008 4:03 pm A couple of years ago I had a similar problem, with the identical cistern, it was Caroma something (Diamond?). I bought another Caroma, double flush plastic Concorde, for $70 (if I remember correctly). I was able to hang it without moving the bolts in the wall, perhaps because both were Caromas or maybe the distance between hanging holes is standard. Anyway, I suggest that you measure that distance between the bolts/hooks/screws in the wall just to be on the safe side. Can I ask you something totally off topic McReidy? How wide is the room? Hehe trying to work out how wide my toilet needs to be, and yours looks fairly slim. 2 3238 ![]() My bathroom had this same layout. I put the toilet roll holder on the shower screen side - silicone it to the glass. 4 4685 2 5022 ![]() |
