Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 May 31, 2012 11:51 am Hi guys, I am new here. I am in the process of building and will soon be choosing tapwares and stuff. From my previous experience, I had trouble with chrome stainless stell tapware and clear shower screen with water marks. My question is whether there is any tapware and showerscreen material (clear transparent ones not frosted) which is designed for easy removal of water stain. My experience is you got to wipe it off straightaway otherwise the stain gets stuck and the bathroom becomes pretty filthy... same as tapwares for kitchen. You know, sometimes you can get lazy ... Any ideas or do I just have to live with it? Re: Water stain marks on taps and shower screen 2Jun 02, 2012 2:16 pm I think whether this will be a problem depends on the water quality in your area. We had a lot of calcium in the water at our last house. the only solution was to wipe clean straight away, or use Ajax Spray and Wipe for Glass several times a week. Great stuff, dries non streaky too. For the outside windows I had to CLR them because of the water drift from the bore and retic. Effective, but not exactly environmentally friendly!! Re: Water stain marks on taps and shower screen 3Jun 02, 2012 4:14 pm As Trees said in depends on the water quality of your area. In Perth we never had an issue with this but down south here it is pretty bad. So as for options with the Showerscreen you can get products to apply to the glass that forms a clear barrier making them easier to clean. However you need to re-apply it every few years. In our new build we are actually adding a filter to our mains which does something to the water, ionises it or something which helps counteract the build up. We went to the local irrigation/water shop and they suggested what would be the best for our water type. I think from memory it is costing us about $450 plus install which I thought was reasonable. Hope this helps Re: Water stain marks on taps and shower screen 4Jun 02, 2012 4:34 pm HI Charnley, I gather you must be on mains water? We are having water tanks, so hopefully it won't be a problem? Re: Water stain marks on taps and shower screen 5Jun 02, 2012 5:38 pm Yes Trees - Mains water and it's really bad wish we had the room to put in some big tanks but not be. Our neigbours in our last house had tanks and did'nt have the issues we had, actually passed on all their descalers for us to use as they did'nt need them any more. Re: Water stain marks on taps and shower screen 6Jul 10, 2012 10:31 am We deal with watermarks on shower screen glass quite a lot. Unfortunately glass is porous and anything that gets into these microscopic pores tends to cloud or discolour the glass. The best thing to do in general is a) use a protective coating on the glass shortly after installation (this cures on the glass and creates a non-porous surface) or b) if it's years later you can try to buff out the marks with a paste like abrasive substance. If you ask a local glass company they might be able to help you out. Re: Water stain marks on taps and shower screen 7Jul 11, 2012 10:36 pm For the glass, so far Enduro Shield has been great; no marks, and everything rinsed off. But this is early days yet, just 2 mths, and I did DIY before we used the shower. As for tapware, everything seems to wipe off with a microfibre cloth, which we also use to wipe over the glass every week or so. And how is it applied? Bunnings definitely has it (as well as the version for tiles, and possibly SS). What I did was use the cleaner as instructed (spray, then wipe), then spray Enduro Shield on and polish as instructed. They have application videos on YouTube, so you can see how to do it. Re: Water stain marks on taps and shower screen 10Jul 12, 2012 7:18 pm Cool, I will check into this. Thanks Re: Water stain marks on taps and shower screen 11Jul 14, 2012 8:07 am I actually got some from Bunnings yesterday. They had it on display next to the registers. I thought it was going to be hard to find and no one would know what I was talking about. Couldnt belive it when I saw it the minute I walked in! More recently got the tile version, and it and the glass version was found easily. Your shower screen has failed in the way it is designed to fail with tempered glass. You could replace it with laminated safety glass but make sure it has AS standards logo on it 1 11163 Hi, planning on using the attached stone pieces in my bathroom.
