Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Apr 29, 2012 8:28 am Hello my house is ready for handover in about a week and I was looking into the Enduroshield to use on all the glass shower screens and tiles. I called up an install place, and they said around $355/shower to to the glass and tiles. So around $1065 for the 3 bathrooms. I then found the stuff at bunnings and worked out 1 x $140 bottle of the glass stuff, and 1 x 500ml bottle of the tile stuff would easily do all of the showers with enough spare to do the glass splashback etc. So its $1065 for a pro to do it, or $280 for me to do it DIY. Am I missing something? I cant see the install of this stuff taking more than say 1hr per shower. So $785 for essentially 3hrs of labour? This to me seems absurd. Has anyone done this stuff DIY? Thanks Ben Re: Enduroshield - DIY or get the pros to install 3May 29, 2012 10:44 pm I DIY for glass, as I didn't think I needed it for my tiles. Wasn't hard, and seems to work; did one side of my frameless, as the other side doesn't get wet. Did it when the screen was new, and so far so good after 3 weeks, just wipe clean 1-2 times a week with a microfibre cleaning mitt. Re: Enduroshield - DIY or get the pros to install 4Jul 10, 2012 11:06 am For future reference to anyone interested in this. There is another product out there called Vitroglaze. You can get a kit that has a pre cleaner and the shield product in it, both in a can. Covers 10m2. We use it on all of our showers we install and it's pretty cheap. i think for the above you'd need maybe two kits. around $160 or cheaper. Re: Enduroshield - DIY or get the pros to install 6Jul 11, 2012 4:34 pm Did it myself and will do again next time. Works a treat and is easy enough to do. Mine has been on shower screens for nearly 5 years and looks good as the day I put it on. Was the finish OK doing it yourself? Does it work? There are 3 or 4 brands out there too. Anyone NOT happy with one? Im thinking about doing the tiles and grout too. Re: Enduroshield - DIY or get the pros to install 11Jan 19, 2013 12:37 pm It seems to be a real mixed bag of results between the different brands and even within those brands. I'm starting to think the size of the shower (big showers = less splashes) and the amount of light in the bathroom makes the difference! Of course, the amount of soap you splash around makes a difference too. My 13 yr old sons bathroom shower screen is immaculate....and so is the cake of soap! Re: Enduroshield - DIY or get the pros to install 12Jan 19, 2013 8:31 pm CC101 - Oh dear that's not good...Ours is still perfect as the day I put it on.. Perhaps the one thing I should have said at the beginning was that you have to make absolutely sure that the screen is pristine clean with the provided cleaner before you apply the shield... I know this because the first screen I did was our ensuite...and as directed I did it in small patches...The very first patch I did was not as good as the second...I could tell instantly because it wasn't as smooth (but of course it was too late!)...It was then I realised actually how much elbow grease was needed to get them up to scratch first, even though it was a brand new house and never been showered in the installers leave it all grimy... Consequently water/soap runs tend to be more noticeable on that particular section of screen...they disappear with a squeegee after a shower, but after a while you can feel a build up even though you cant see it.... You could always use the cleaner and start again... Oh and lastly we always use soap free gels etc as these are much worse for both the screen/tiles/your body and the environment Slab Poured 30/05/12 Lower Floor Plate High 20/08/12 Upper Floor & Wall Framing 30/08/12 Roof 14/09/12 Lock-Up 13/12/12 Yee haaaaa WE ARE IN & I HAVE A NEW IPHONE Re: Enduroshield - DIY or get the pros to install 15Jan 22, 2013 7:48 am Have this on my shower screens and to be honest I dont think it is a game changer - save yourself the cash - elbow grease and cleaning products will serve you just as well. Re: Enduroshield - DIY or get the pros to install 16Jan 22, 2013 10:34 am yes sohandy, but elbow grease = effort and cleaning products = expense and environmental and health damage... Who wants to breathe in harmful fumes whilst cleaning the shower?...not I Slab Poured 30/05/12 Lower Floor Plate High 20/08/12 Upper Floor & Wall Framing 30/08/12 Roof 14/09/12 Lock-Up 13/12/12 Yee haaaaa WE ARE IN & I HAVE A NEW IPHONE Re: Enduroshield - DIY or get the pros to install 17Jan 22, 2013 12:27 pm CC101 i did my showers - 4 months back - i still see water / soap marks and have to clean it regularly. so not that impressed. of course you do. the product is designed to reduce cleaning and staining, not eliminate it. if applied correctly this product works a treat. Re: Enduroshield - DIY or get the pros to install 18Feb 02, 2013 7:13 pm We used Enduroshield on our frameless shower screen and floor tiles in both of our bathrooms when we renovated them a few years ago. I bought the stuff from Bunnings and followed the instructions exactly. I'm a bit OCD so after each shower I use a squeegie thingy to remove any excess water. The Enduroshield helps the water bead so it's really easy to keep it clean, I've found it seriously cuts down on the amount of cleaning products I have to use to keep the water and soap scum at bay. It's only now, about 2 or 3 years later that I'm thinking about re-doing them again. I probably wouldn't pay a professional to do it, it's very easy to apply yourself.. just make sure you follow the instructions to the letter. 2fk Re: Enduroshield - DIY or get the pros to install 19Feb 02, 2013 8:44 pm Hello! Someone told me to clean the shower screen and wall tiles with Mr Sheen to make the water just bead up and run off them. I haven't tried it though. Another forum member told me to use a 1:4 mix of sugar soap to water in a spray bottle, with a microfibre cloth, cleaning every two weeks. Works a treat, cheap too. . . 15 litres of mixed cleaner for about 3 bucks. Standard uninsulated double brick has an R value of around 0.7. An insulated standard 90mm stud timber frame can have an R value of around 2.7. Even if you insulate a… 17 12071 That's a fantastic result! Happy you got it sorted out. cheers Simeon 6 8648 |
