Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Apr 23, 2012 4:12 pm Rather than dig up an old thread, I thought I may start a new one as my questions are a little different. I need to install 2x 1500mmx900mm showers. 1 is on a concrete slab, the other is upstairs on timber of course. I'm not a big advocate of non-shower bases due to complexity and cost, but 1500mmx900mm shower poly marble bases are hugely expensive compared ($750!!) compared to $99 for the standard 900mmx900mm size. Now for the ground floor on slabs, who prepares the shower base? or what is the way to prepare the slab? I'm thinking if I can get the slab guys to make a 60mm high 1600x1000 recess in the slab, that will help with the fall and make the plumber/tiler's job easier. I'm just thinking out loud, so call me silly but it makes sense to me? Or does the plumber come in and just cut the floor. Now, for upstairs or for a house on stumps, who prepares/constructs the floor for a walk in shower base? What's a foolproof way to get it 110% waterproof? While doing my research, I found what seems to be to be a great product - Universal Shower Base. http://www.universalshowerbase.com/ It's a fibreglass(?) shower base that is installed under the floor and you tile over it! While more complicated than installing a standard shower base, I see the same advantages in waterproofing (compared to one without a showerbase). Has anyone used one before? The other question is would 600x300 tiles work with walk in tiled showers, or am I better off with 300x300 tiles? I like walk in tiled showers, but am very afraid of them leaking. Thanks in advance. Electrical just got back to me and said the most they can provide is a single power point on the Bedroom 1 side of that wall.
