Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Apr 17, 2012 1:13 pm I have been asked to improve the shower in a rental property. At the moment it has a curtained corner shower. Of course the base slopes to a central floorwaste but, amazingly, there is no plinth (if that is the correct term) to prevent water from escaping onto the adjacent bathroom floor. I am thinking of building a two course plinth of 230x114x65 clay pavers and tiling it but I worry that normal mortar would not form a strong bond between the pavers and shiny floor tiles. Is my concern justified? Also, as it is a wet area should I add some Bondcrete to the mortar mix? Re: Building a Brick Plinth on a Bathroom Floor 2Apr 17, 2012 4:01 pm Alot of new bathrooms have walk in showers. No doors and no steps! 2 of the 3 bathrooms in my new house are being built this way. Aslong as the falls are correct they function perfectly! Very little will stick for long to a shinny tile. I personally would be drilling some holes in the tile (dont drill through the water proofing) this will allow the mortar to stick well. Idea of working from the centre is that you dont have a 20mm thin tile at one end and a 400mm at the other end.
