Am I being ripped off for a towel ring?

I just added 3 towel rings to our house specifications (you know, those ones you hang a hand towel on).

They quoted us $90 per ring. I thought this was ridiculous! Any comments? Am I being unreasonable?

The brand was ECT (not sure what that is)....

If you have it through the builder, it's gonna cost you double (or even triple) the price...
So might as buy your own and attach after handover.

I thought a builder would supply this sort of thing as well as toilet paper holders, towel racks as standard etc :shock:

Another item to add to the list of 'extras'

eah I didn't think they would cost much - but I'm more worried about finding someone to install it all, DH is next to useless :lol:

Not standard in our house, we had to get as an extra, but only cost $29, that's for a basic powder coated ring, not sure what brand, we just automatically got the same brand as the builders range.

It sounds a bit expensive to me :shock:

They come standard with our building company,but we upgraded from the plastic ones to polished chrome and I,m sure they were only about $30 each.

We priced all of that sort of thing before we went to our colour selections and found that the building company were fairly reasonably priced.

We were going to get standard tapware etc. and then buy our own to put in later on,but decided it would be a lot easier to leave it to the builder...our friends were going to do that with their new house....5 yrs later they still have the standard range :lol:

Also,we upgraded the towel rails as the standard ones were only long enough for one towel,we thought about buying and installing those later but realised that it would be a major job installing the longer ones as that would mean re-tiling that area.....there,s just so much to think about isn,t there! LOL

They are easy to install on plaster - hard to install correctly on plaster

I put one in the bathroom when the kids were young and it took 5 minutes before it and the plaster came off the wall

You need to fit them to studs ( which are not easy to find in the place you need them)

Our single towel rails were included - we upgraded to doubles. Hand towel holders though were not included - even in the powder room.

Great feedback from Paula. Our toilet roll holder is the same.. there are NO studs where we require. so, all of us in the frame stage should request noggins where we would be placing the toilet roll and towel holders.
Any handyman can fix it for you if DH is no good.. :lol:

I have managed to mount out toilet roll, towell rails and hand towell holder just onto plaster with no issues at all - the attatchments use the "toggles" that actually grip the plaster from behind as you tighten them, so they are very firmly on the wall!

If I can manage...anyone can!!!!

I agree. You are better off attaching your own towel rack afterwards. Get a handy man or a friend. Builders always charge over the top prices for any changes.

Still not strong enough for the toddlers!!! :cry:

I will be making sure they have some wood to attach to at the new place!!

I am more worry about you starting arguments/fight with your poor DH...

If you buy stuff from any shop selling bathroom accessaries, they would be too happy to install or recommend a trades person to install it. And if they install it, you should normally get the warranty (get it in writing!)

It might look simple, but drilling a hole through the tile (if full tiling to ceiling) or plaster isn't as easy as you thought.
