Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Mar 05, 2008 11:57 am My house is currently under construction and after having it inspected the inspector has suggested a change to my bathroom.
Here is the plan: http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y137/n ... throom.jpg He has suggested making use of the void by putting shelfing in it so I can put my shampoo etc in the shower and also having shelving from the side for towels etc. Has anyone seen any pics like this so I can submit them to my builder to see if it's possible? I'm hoping we haven't progressed to far to do this (wish I'd thought of it myself last year). First fix was done a couple of weeks ago. Re: Using Void 2Mar 05, 2008 12:13 pm I would definitaly do something with the space!!
Personally I think I would reconfigure it to have a longer vanity rather then shelves Have a play around, maybe the vanity could go the full length of the wall where the shower is, and the shower could fit where the vanity is. A cavity door helps if you don't want to have the main door and the shower door hitting each other if both are open. Re: Using Void 3Mar 05, 2008 12:15 pm Does the void serve a purpose?
If not, why not extend the shower to the full width of the bathroom. BTW, what ar ethe dimensions of the batchroom? Demolition August 2009, Construction Started September 2009, Completed December 2010 Re: Using Void 4Mar 05, 2008 12:22 pm I'm not sure of the dimensions (don't have the plans on me at the moment)
I'm only able to make minimal changes (it's a special deal and I'm not able to change things to much). I thought the idea of shelving would be good because other than under the sink I don't have any and the house doesn't have a linen closet so any space for towels would be very useful. Re: Using Void 5Mar 05, 2008 12:24 pm oh! shelves that way, I thought you meant shelves in the shower (eg not so sutable for towels LOL).
Yeah I think it would be great for towel shelving, especially if you don't have a linen cupboard, you could fold them all neatly and fill it up with towels, that way you don't waste the depth. Re: Using Void 6Mar 05, 2008 12:27 pm He suggested shelves (in the shower and out) both ways.
Heres what he drew for me: http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y137/n ... room-2.jpg Re: Using Void 10Mar 05, 2008 6:03 pm hi natbut, i definitely think the storage option is a go-er. it sounds like your inspector was thinking carefully about your bathroom design which can only be good.
Helen Re: Using Void 12Mar 06, 2008 9:58 am Thanks for all the replies everyone.
I was getting really excited, but unfortunately the builder has said that there will be plumbing and airconditioning things in the void (so not really a void). Oh well I'll just have to look at other storage options for towels etc since I have no linen closet. I think a trip to ikea might be a good idea. Not sure if that works?
