Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Aug 01, 2012 1:40 pm We are considering installing a laminate benchtop in our laundry to replace the existing small one where the sink is. We would like to extend the bench over our front load washer and attach it to the wall at the end of the laundry. As there is only the base cabinet where the sink is to sit it on (then the washer and another 70cm space), how do we attach it to the wall at the other end (void underneath to allow for washing baskets). Are there special brackets that you can get to support the benchtop and join it to the wall? Second Time 'Round Re: DIY Laundry benchtop 2Aug 01, 2012 5:13 pm No special brackets required. We use 40x19 white vinyl wrapped pine screwed to the wall to support the top. Would that hold the weight? Second Time 'Round Re: DIY Laundry benchtop 4Aug 02, 2012 11:41 am If the timber you screw to the wall is attached (screwed into) some structural work in the wall and not just the plaster and you have the timber on the rear of the bench and the sides to support it, you should be fine! 2 Re: DIY Laundry benchtop 5Aug 02, 2012 12:10 pm CuttingEdgeKitchens No special brackets required. We use 40x19 white vinyl wrapped pine screwed to the wall to support the top. Care to elaborate? In our walk in robe, they have fitted a 100mm (I would say pine) to the wall, screwed off at the batons, they then attached the benchtop to that. What sort of weight could that hold? Would that hold the weight? Yep, just screw 40x19 timber to the wall. Make sure you screw it into the studs though. "Would that hold the weight", I wouldnt suggest it if it didnt! 33mm thick laminate tops are all most self supporting over 700mm so with timber screwed to the wall it would hold you and I standing ontop of it! Re: DIY Laundry benchtop 8Aug 09, 2012 9:36 am Thanks heaps Just double checking so I don't end up with a collapsed bench Second Time 'Round Re: DIY Laundry benchtop 11Sep 02, 2012 2:14 pm Our bench top in the laundry has just been installed,on the wall is support strips that cutting is talking about, but we also had to get 2 more cabinet for more support. Due to needing these cabinet quickly (coz no-one thought of it before install) i had to get 2 flat pack ones, not ideal but didn't have time to order any made to order ones. This is for granite though, with such a wide span it had to have the extra,i think your's will be fine. I was doing what you want to do,open void for laundry baskets, now they will be inside the cabinet instead. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Block bought 1st RBC X! 2nd Ventrua,Keeper!
