Sorry if this is a silly question, but will a chrome towel rail rust?
I saw a bargain on ebay and I'm thinking of getting it, but if chrome is no good, I'll give it a miss....

But if it's a well known brand. eg. Dorf etc, it should be fine??? Their quality standards are pretty good. Good Luck!!! Re: Chrome towel rail 3Mar 04, 2008 5:52 pm All REALLY good kitchen and bathroom hardware is made from Chrome!

Ok…..make sure the chrome is top grade! NOOOOOOOOOO, that wasn't a whack, just a small tweaking, that's all????? LOL Re: Chrome towel rail 7Mar 28, 2008 4:51 pm Chrome is usually best quality when it is triple coated. Coming from a car background as I do, I love chrome:) Usually the Chinese stuff is coated once and not high quality. Chrome doesn't rust itself, but it is quite thin even when triple coated and without care, most metals under it will oxidize (rust).
That said, most bathroom hardware manufacturers don't tell you how many times a thing was coated or what the underlying material is. Usually can guess with where it came from and whether the manufacturer is known for quality or not. If low quality and from china, it's likely to be on cheap steel and coated once. Recipe for quick (year or two) rust. If something is made out of aluminum, then chrome plated it has to be plated with zinc or nickel first as chrome will not stick to aluminum ( I know I can't spell aussie:)) Most people never do what's necessary to take care of chrome finishes in houses. Should be chrome polished at least once a year, more if wet things are put on it like a towel bar. This will make it last longer.
