Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Mar 27, 2012 9:48 am Hi i have stumbled across this site and need some help with bathroom renovations. we will have 1 x powder room, 1 x ensuite, and 1 x main bathroom. I was planning on not tiling the walls in the powder room and using paint only but tiling the floor or timber floor. would this be an issue? For my ensuite i was planning on tiling the floor and shower area only, much like this photo http://www.houzz.com/photos/421727/Plea ... ittle-rock and the main bathroom would have tiled floors, shower and around bath tub but painted walls everywhere else. I like the look of the painted walls instead of floor to ceiling tiles, i think painted walls makes it look 'nicer', so it isnt for the sake of saving money. But my question is will having painted walls be an issue? i have not seen many bathrooms in Australia with painted walls, but Ive been looking for inspiration online and all the bathrooms/powder rooms i see have no tiles? what do people think? thanks Re: Painted walls in bathrooms? 2Mar 27, 2012 10:28 am That's a lovely picture ... I don't see any issue with not tiling your walls. Our bathroom and powder room have painted walls ... For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!! Re: Painted walls in bathrooms? 3Mar 27, 2012 2:02 pm Thanks! i didnt think there was an issue but everyone i have been speaking to has said you need to put tiles in wet areas, especially a bathroom. i think i will stick with the painted walls and tiles on floor and shower. Re: Painted walls in bathrooms? 4Mar 27, 2012 5:15 pm I've recently redone a bathroom with only minimal tiling (floors, shower, around the bath and sink). The walls are painted with a kitchen/bathroom mould resistant paint. Like you, I prefer painted walls but was hesitant to do it because tiling everything seems so common now, but I'm glad I stuck with what I wanted. Months on, the paint is fine; it's not like I'd be hosing down the walls if they were tiled instead and I can always wipe the washable paint if I need to. I can easily repaint in a different colour if I get sick of it in a few years (or hang a painting on a wall to brighten it up) much more easily than re-tiling. Re: Painted walls in bathrooms? 5Mar 28, 2012 8:39 am Thanks Pippi, i think i will stick to what i want and do minimal tiling with painted walls. i like the idea of being able to repaint or hang up art work to give the room a change. what colour tiles did you use? I was thinking a type of white so that you can do any colour paint? Re: Painted walls in bathrooms? 6Mar 28, 2012 9:55 am We redid our bathrooms 5 years ago - with tiling and paint as you have suggested you will do, and have no trouble with maintenance. Make sure a proper 'bathroom' paint is used, and give it the occasional wipedown (does seem to get dustier in their compared to other rooms). Personally I prefer this look, and we are doing it again in our current build. Render your bathroom walls, two opinions versus the one, makes you wonder. 3 6057 The spacing of the studs looks pretty large especially for a load bearing wall. 3 11109 Nope, only on the inside, I've literally has my ears to the brick outside and can't hear anything. I can sort of 'reset' the noise by pressing firmly on the studs. This… 10 11759 |
