Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Feb 11, 2012 4:03 pm Hi, We are about to completely renovate bathroom & ensuite, and I have looked through the forum and seen a couple of posts on this kind of shower, but I have a couple of really basic questions I hope a few people can help me out with. I would really like to know what dimensions work effectively for a screenless shower? Also, what style of showerhead and placement (eg how far out from the back wall etc), what kind of drain works well, what ballpark cost is involved?.. and i would really love know what other people have done and to see some pics for inspiration Re: walk in / screenless / european shower basics 2Feb 11, 2012 4:24 pm We've started looking at the bathroom too so I'll follow this thread with interest. Steveandmary, for your question about what sort of drain, have you got floorboards or concrete slab? (We've got slab so changing style/location of drains is really problematic.) walk in / screenless / european shower basics 3Feb 11, 2012 5:44 pm We have just installed a shower room in our poolhouse. It is approx 2m x 1.5m with an opening around 800mm. Haven't physically used it yet but have tested the taps out a fair bit. The only time we had water coming out of the area was when the husband decided to turn the handheld shower on and didn't face it towards the wall - let it spray outward LOL. Re: walk in / screenless / european shower basics 4Feb 11, 2012 11:46 pm Thanks for the pics Kyton It looks great but it's definitely larger than the area we can allocate to a shower (It would definitely make for a luxurious shower though!) JazzyJess we have concrete slabs in the two areas as well... The new bathroom is where our ensuite is now (after taking out the toilet and having a separate powder room) but the new ensuite is where we have a wardrobe at the moment. The builder didnt seem to think there was going to be any problems with this, but i guess this is part of what i wanted to find out more about - the pros & cons (and possibility) of going for screenless rather than an enclosed shower unit. Re: walk in / screenless / european shower basics 5Feb 12, 2012 8:31 pm Has anyone done any smaller walk in or screenless showers that work & have pics & dimensions? Cheers, Re: walk in / screenless / european shower basics 6Feb 14, 2012 10:32 am Hi, We did! Our plans might give you an idea of how our ensuite area is laid out. Ignore the fact it shows a screen on the plans! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We have now installed hooks along the left wall.. the same hooks Kyton and love them! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We have a small hob (they told us we had too). We also needed the entire area back to where the toilet is water proofed. I was concerned about being cold but I love it now! Its totally fine and I LOVE not having a screen to clean as well!! We also have a pebbled shower base which ties in the wall and floor tiles perfectly and its a nice feature.. We dont get water escape coz of the hob but if the head is pointed a little out too much then there is a bit of over spray. We also tiled both bathrooms to the ceiling. Makes for easy cleaning and looks great! Hope this helps! Building in Adelaide, SA Slab poured 08/09/2011 Handover 18/01/2012! Our son already has one which works really well, so we copied the dimensions. We have also noticed the drainage slope of his shower floor is actually lower than the normal shower floor- so his slab has been lowered there (not sure by how much- sorry.) The actual shower is 1700 long by 880 wide. The hob wall is 1600 high and 900 wide, so opening is of course 800. I will try to post the plan on here, but at the moment having scanner problems. . . Re: walk in / screenless / european shower basics 10Feb 17, 2012 10:43 pm Dimensions and pictures are really great, thanks! Ashkate, did they say why you need a hob? I've looked at pictures and at display homes and I don't think I've typically seen hobs? It looks like it might be a sensible idea but I was wondering how they explained it to you? Re: walk in / screenless / european shower basics 11Feb 20, 2012 8:14 am To be honest im not sure why (I dont remember their explaination) and looking at it i figured it was not a bad idea... Im glad now we do.. We made the square section bigger and even now it splashes a bit... Building in Adelaide, SA Slab poured 08/09/2011 Handover 18/01/2012! Re: walk in / screenless / european shower basics 13Feb 22, 2012 10:46 am We have nice matte floor tiles and they dry quite quickly... We also have a bath mat against the hob so the minor slashing is not a big deal to us.. Building in Adelaide, SA Slab poured 08/09/2011 Handover 18/01/2012!
