Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Feb 09, 2012 7:36 pm In the process of getting plumbing quotes for a bathroom reno, we told several plumbers that we want to get a freestanding bath knowing that we do not have a central floor drain in the bathroom (only in the shower). This has not been an issueto any of the plumbers, until tonight. He told us that because there is no central drain, the bath MUST have an overflow, otherwise we will have to have the central drain installed by law. He also stated that the vanity we choose has to have an overflow as well. Given that we have already fallen in love with a bath that DOES NOT have an overflow, can anyone shed any light on this new development? Thanks. Re: Bath Overflow & drainage 3Feb 10, 2012 11:42 am Stewie D Soooo... why don't you want a central drain ? They are there for a very good reason. Is this reno for a bathroom on a concrete slab or timber sub-floor frame ? Stewie Thanks Stewie, It's a complete bathroom reno, and I am not against putting in a centreal drain, in fact it is a great idea vbecause I have a nearly 3 year old who loves to splash in the bath. I was more curious about the legal aspect of it, given that only 1 out of 3 plumbers brought it up. Cheers Re: Bath Overflow & drainage 4Feb 10, 2012 11:51 am Well your guy is correct, the others are just turning a blind eye to it really. If you have a three year old then yeah , definitely put in a drain - you should see our bathroom when our daughter has finished in there ! Hurricane Yasi would come off second best in a water fight with her. Stewie ( with wet feet ) Much a do about nothing. You can see the fall heading to the actual drains. Stormwater ingress will be minimal and it's far better to have the top sitting flush rather… 12 6336 Thanks for that, the PVC pipe is still about 40cm below ground level and it sticks out of the sand with no end cap or anything on it just open pipe, is this the finished… 2 10530 Hi HomeOne, I'm in the midst of landscaping a cat run down the side of my house, and the recent rains have me wondering if I need to install some sort of drainage.
