Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Feb 03, 2012 8:09 pm Hi all, Just looking for some advice on tiled shower bases. We want gloss tiles on the floor in the bathroom, but we also have tiled shower bases. Our builder has suggested not to have gloss in the shower as they are slippery. The house we are currently in has gloss tiles in the bathroom and they aren't slippery at all. What would you all suggest? We are having the same tile on the floor and wall, so if we change to matt on the floor do we have the whole floor matt or just the shower and do we then change our wall tiles to matt so they match? Thanks Re: Tiled shower bases- slippery gloss tiles??? 2Feb 04, 2012 8:21 am Hi, We have gloss white tiles on the walls and grey honed tiles on the floor. The tiles we bought for the floor came in matt, honed and gloss. I like the contrast of the gloss on the walls and honed on the floor. I wouldn't have gloss on the floor in the shower because they could be slippery. Also the gloss on the walls IMHO is easier to clean. Re: Tiled shower bases- slippery gloss tiles??? 3Feb 04, 2012 8:57 am We have polished porcelain tiles in our wet areas on walls & floor (incl shower) & we haven't had any issues. I was concerned about my young kids in their bathroom so we originally had honed floor tiles for them however after asking around I was told that polished aren't as slippery as people assume. So we changed to polished throughout, we think they look nicer & they are also very easy to clean I have no idea if you can just have honed in the shower but it sounds like a good solution. I originally planned on putting the rubber bath mat down for the kids when they shower but I haven't needed too.
