Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Feb 03, 2012 8:42 am We are having renovations done, including the main bathroom. (Part of the other renovations include an ensuite for us - woohoo) I know - it's leaving it till the last minute, but previously we were going for a separate shower/ bath, but we've had to move out while things are going on, and where we've been staying they have a large corner bath with a shower over it, which the kids love so we thought we'd try to change the design and work that in. We managed to pick up a great corner bath on sale, but didn't check out measurements properly and now I don't think it will fit. The bath we got measures 1480x1490 from the corner (and 2100 across the front) but the only place it would (nearly) fit is in an opposite corner to the door where it will overhang the window by nearly 200mm. Our builder is recommending we look around and try to get a 1200x1200 size one instead (which we can do, but it's a shame - but of course our fault for not checking things properly to begin with). But then our design was to put it in the same place, and then put the vanity (we were going to get them to build one in to fit) next to it under the window. Doing this would mean we don't have a wasted corner, and would mean we'd have a nice big mirror on the wall next to it but... Next problem -there is only 880 under the window and apparantly the codes say you need a certain amount of clearance and to have a splashback behind, so we'd have to have a lower than usual vanity. This is not necessarily a bad thing as the bathroom is predominantly for the kids - but they will grow! Plus -DH was not sure about not having a mirror above the vanity anyway... And even then with that plan leaves the toilet either along the wall going down from the other corner of the bath, or along the same wall as where the door opens. Either way, it will be the first thing you see when you open the door - which is not so nice. We could change the way the door swings, but then it would be opening against the room, instead of against the wall which doesn't make sense either. There is no plumbing at all there yet, so it's a blank slate. Any ideas at all would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!! If we can use the bath we've already got that would be fantastic, but I've just about resigned myself to having to go and get a smaller one. Thanks so much for any help! If you definitely want the corner bath configuration than i would put it in the corner opposite the window. Then maybe put the toilet in the corner you see when you walk in but build a wall so you don't see it. even a half wall, so you still get the light in from the window. Then put the vanity where you where planning to put the big bath. And have a normal vanity with a big mirror above to really open the room up. But this is what I need to hear - what other people would do objectively. I quite like the idea of the half wall and toilet in front of the window. Any other ideas anyone? Possibly both depending on the sizing. Idea of working from the centre is that you dont have a 20mm thin tile at one end and a 400mm at the other end. A quick search on… 3 8401 You never have a fridge against wall as you’ve drawn. The doors can’t open past 90 degrees and it’s difficult and maybe impossible to remove drawers 2 15585 Thank you so much for the effort. We will use it to talk with builder. We also had idea of building duplex instead and seeking suggest ions. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=106744 11 13817 |
